The Background of Mentalism
Mentalism has been around since the 1500's, but not just for entertainment! There were people that were thought to have supernatural powers in times that others could not understand how the tricks were performed.Over time, more science & research was applied to the tricks, and mentalists became very exciting entertainers.
In the following centuries, mentalism became an excellent skill to learn, and the tricks became more and more thrilling.
In the last few decades, famous mentalists such as Banachek, Max Maven and Uri Geller pushed the envelope to include more fantastic mentalism tricks in their routines.
Then, David Copperfield, Criss Angel & David Blaine came on the scene, making a big splash with street magic & large-scale TV magic tricks. (I love watching these guys trick the crap out of people with insane mentalism tricks!)
Hokey magic with smoke & mirrors is already ingrained in the human mind as fake nowadays. BUT, tricking the brain with mentalism will never be written off.
So, now is a better time than any to learn mentalism, whether you want to impress friends & family, or even to become a paid entertainer!
Why do you want to learn mentalism?
I've loved watching magic tricks (and trying to figure them out) since I was a little kid. I quickly realized that it's even more fun to be the one DOING the tricks. (More on that in a minute...)
...then, I found out about mentalism, and I was hooked! It's so fun being able to mess with people's minds. ;)

How to do the "Card Through Window" Trick!
Wanna learn the mentalism trick in the video above?
Here you go:
Idea: You will ask the spectator (or someone in the crowd) to pick a card (without you seeing it the face) and put it back in the deck.
Then, the deck is shuffled, and you act like you aren't able to find their card.
After 2-3 tries, you act like you're mad and throw the deck at a window, and the card that was chosen is stuck to the inside of the window!
What You'll Need: Two identical decks of cards & someone to help you out.
How to Do It:
Here you go:
Idea: You will ask the spectator (or someone in the crowd) to pick a card (without you seeing it the face) and put it back in the deck.
Then, the deck is shuffled, and you act like you aren't able to find their card.
After 2-3 tries, you act like you're mad and throw the deck at a window, and the card that was chosen is stuck to the inside of the window!
What You'll Need: Two identical decks of cards & someone to help you out.
How to Do It:
- Start the trick near a big window, and make sure the person picking the card is facing away from the window.
- Tell them to pick a card, and have them do the usual memorizing & putting it back in the deck.
- Have them shuffle it, and "try" revealing their card a couple times, failing each time. (Put on a show like you're getting embarrassed & frustrated since you can't seem to find it. Hint: you don't even need to know what card they picked!)
- Now's where the magic happens...=) Pretend like you're ticked off, and throw the deck against the window. (Make sure the cards are squared up...)
- At this point, the card the person chose will already be stuck to the other side of the window, by your helper (since they could see the card that was chosen), using looped sticky tape or magician's wax. (Make sure the decks are identical so the person is completely fooled by this part!)

Also, be sure to tell the helper to stick the card on the inside of the window right when they see it, then casually walk away.)
One last thing: it's crucial that you quickly pick up the remaining cards (especially the one they chose!)
This one will definitely have people in shock, so have fun!

Awesome Card Trick Revealed!
This is another cool mentalism trick I learned from MasterMentalism.com, but I found it on YouTube after the fact. I saw a guy do a trick very similar to this in a bar, and he recommended I get the "Master Mentalism" course when I asked him how he did it.
This video is a nice example of what you'll find in the Master Mentalism course. Unfortunately, you won't find very many helpful videos to learn mentalism other than the ones I've compiled for this page. (It took me almost 2 hours just to filter through the stupid ones to put some high-quality stuff here...)
Point being, why waste your time trying to find the secrets to mentalism tricks when people have already put them all in one place?
So far, Master Mentalism hooked me up with 14 killer tricks (and I still have a LOT left to learn!) that I use all the time at parties, and they impress people regularly.
It's fun being able to amaze people with mentalism tricks like this:

Learn Amazing Mentalism & Magic Tricks NOW:
Learn the Card Switch Mentalism Trick
Prepare: To begin this trick, find the 6 of Spades, the 6 of Clubs, the 9 of Spades and the 9 of Clubs.Put the 6 of Spades on the top of the deck, and the 9 of Clubs on the bottom. Keep the other two (6C & 9S) separate from the deck.
The Trick: Show the deck to the person you want to play the trick on. Then, show them the 6 of Clubs and the 9 of Spades, and ask them what cards they are. When they reply, ask them if they're sure. Next, hold up just one of these two cards, and ask them which one it is, then put it in the middle of the deck. Do the same thing with the second card.
Set the deck on a table, and tell them to tap it 3 times with their hand. Ask them if they have any magic dust. If they say no, pretend to sprinkle some on after reaching in your pocket. If they say yes, tell them they're crazy, because there's no such thing. (That usually gets a good laugh if there are other people around...)
This part is really important: Rub your hands together and blow on them. Make sure they get a little wet/moist from this!
Now, pick up the deck with your thumb on top, and your 4 fingers on the bottom, but don't squeeze it hard at all!
Lastly, swing the deck back and forth a couple times, then suddenly swing it into your other hand, holding onto the top & bottom card from the deck (the 6 of Spades & 9 of Clubs). This is why you need moist fingers, and to keep from squeezing the deck too hard.
9 out of 10 of the people that see this trick will associate the numbers and the color black, but they won't be able to remember that they were opposite of the ones they saw at the beginning.
Practice the swinging at the end a couple times, and this is a great mentalism card trick that will leave people amazed!
