Kids can program too!
Computer Programming for Kids addresses the curiosity of computer-literate youngsters in grades 6 through 12 who want to understand what programming is all about and how to write programs. About the Author: Ely Eshel
(He wrote the book on programming for kids.)
Ely Eshel got hooked on programming more than 30 years ago, in his high-school Junior year, and has not been able to stop since. When his son, then 12 years old, wanted to learn how to program, they couldn't find any classes he could take or books on the subject. He decided then and there that he would use his his many years of experience in programming and his teaching and presentation experience, and give children the opportunity to learn programming at a young age.

To know some hardware for computers will be helpful, open the computer box, let kids see how they're operating in a safe distance...
