Learn the guitar online!

The guitar is one of the most popular musical instruments on the planet and there are many different methods and styles that you can learn. But why fork out a pile of money for lessons only to decide that it isn't really for you?

Did you know that you can learn the guitar online and there are FREE TRIAL LESSONS AVAILABLE? That means you can try before you buy, and if you decide not to continue, it hasn't cost you a penny!

But if you want to know what is the best (and cheapest!) way to become the next (insert name of your favourite guitarist here :-)), then read on!!

Where do I begin?

Should I go to a guitar tutor?

I first picked up a guitar when I was about 14 at school which was about a million years ago. I had a few friends who were in a band and I started to learn from them. Originally I wanted a drum kit, but my Mum wasn't too keen :-)

Fast forward a few years and I went on to play bass guitar semi professionally for 6 years and I can honestly say I loved every second of it, Getting paid for something I love was just fantastic.

The Internet has come along and made life so much easier. You can learn pretty much anything you want to online and, fortunately, that includes learning to play the guitar.

A tutor is one option and if you feel you need a little discipline, a tutor will push you more than you'll push yourself. However, they can be very epensive in the long run...

What are my options?

The best way...

If you want to learn to play guitar and you've never touched one before, you can either find a friend who plays and can teach you the basics, or pay for some lessons. You should be able to find a guitar teacher in your local classifieds or Yellow Pages, but they can be quite expensive. My son's friend took beginners lessons and they cost around £20GBP (US$30) for an hour...
After a month, he knew enough to play a few basic chords and a couple of tunes, but he was getting bored...

The time between lessons was making him crazy, he was very keen to move on, so I introduced him to an online course and now he's coming on fantastically well and the boredom has gone!

What do I need to do?

It ain't as easy as it looks...

OK, I'll tell you now, if you want to play, and play well, it can take years of practice. Bryan Adams says in his song 'The Summer of '69', 'played it 'til my fingers bled..'
It isn't quite that bad but they'll hurt like hell at first until you get yourself some little bits of hard skin..You'll have finger exercises, learn scales, chords, notes, tab, tuning....

If you take lessons from a teacher, you'll be at least 7 days between lessons, but if you get an online course, you can learn at your own pace. If you feel ready to move onto the next part of the course, just fire up your computer and you're ready to go. If you want, and you're keen, you can learn in a week what you'd be taught in a month by a tutor...

What's the best way?

My favourite course is...

Without a doubt, Jamorama.
