Do you Want to Learn to Sing at Home?

There are many reasons why you may want to learn to sing at home rather than go to group or one on one singing lessons.

- You want to learn at your own pace rather than one set by an instructor.
- You want to learn in your own time not having to go to lessons at a certain time every week.
- It might be simply the cost of continued lessons which can stretch into the hundreds of dollars
- Maybe you live in a remote area with no tutors close by
- Or perhaps you are just not confident enough to start singing in front of anyone even a teacher.

In any case it is possible to train yourself to sing well from the comfort of your own home without all of the problems above stopping you from achieving the voice you want!

How to Learn to Sing at Home

There are a few things you will need to know to be able to learn to sing at home with any great success.

Breathing

Being able to breath correctly while you sing is one of the absolute foundations of having a good singing voice. Many people do not even think about how they breath which limits their range, volume and tone.

The best way to breath is from the diaphragm which is the below the chest under the ribcage. This fills the bottom of the lungs giving you more air and force to breath out when singing. This encourages a stronger more pure tone and will allow you to sing longer ... it is also good for your health to exercise your lungs like this.

Practice breathing from the diaphragm by placing a hand on your chest and one just below the ribcage. Your chest hand should not move much when breathing in but your other hand should rise and fall each breath,

Posture

When singing you should have good posture. This aids in breathing well and gives confidence too! You should stand up straight but without tensing up your muscles, do not slump your shoulders and make sure to lift your head upwards and not look at the ground.

Practice this in front of a mirror at home. It is amazing how you can change your voice for the better when you watch how you stand and adjust it while singing. You will discover a power you perhaps did not know you had!

Volume

Do not YELL! Singing is not about ripping you throat to shreds trying to overcome poor pitch by adding loudness and volume. Perfect other things before starting to increase your volume and it will come more naturally.

Pitch

This is probably the hardest part of learning to sing at home. When with a teacher they can hear your pitch and can help you adjust it very quickly. Your own sense of pitch is not always correct you see and so without feedback you can cheat yourself of being able to hit the right notes.

One way to get around this is to record your voice on your computer and play it back with the music. This can be a little nerve wrecking as listening to your own voice can be but it will be a helpful tool to see where you may be going wrong.

Practice

As they say practice makes perfect. However since no one is perfect lets just say practice makes BETTER. Sing in the shower, sing while cooking, sing while doing the house work or sing while doing schoolwork it does not matter! The more you sing the more you get better as long as you are listening to how you sing and making plans to improve each time.

Also, try to sing beyond just your favorite bands or musical genre. This will expand your range and make you a better more versatile singer even if you only plan to sing in a single genre.

There is however one problem with continued practice without tuition ... you can ingrain bad habits you do not know you are doing.

Practice at Home to Learn Better Singing

You can learn to sing better at home with just these tips but having a complete guide on how to sing is very helpful to avoid cementing bad habits in singing that are hard to un-learn once they have been drilled into you.

There are many great guides you can buy to help you do this available through amazon and even bookstores and other outlets but most are quite simplistic and do not give the far reaching support of one downloadable system called Sing-O-Rama.

recommend this to anyone who really wants to get a great voice not just a mediocre one as it gives you the tools to adjust your pitch and practice with the right tuition with 28 amazing audio lessons that will allow you to learn when you want and at your own pace from your own home.
