You're not going to "master" the French language in a few weeks, especially if you're not immersed in a French speaking environment. BUT you can learn to carry simple conversations, understand what you are reading, and be able write proficiently - everything you need to communicate effectively.

Step #1: Listen and Repeat
The best way to learn any language is by listening. If you think about it, that is how we learned our language as children. You would really have an advantage if you were able to listen to a a native speaker', as you will pick up the correct accent and pronunciation of words. You can easily get access to a speaker by audiobooks, cd's or software that you can download and put in on your mp3 player. As you listen to the audio, repeat the words and phrases exactly as you hear them. Repetition and practice is the key to becoming fluent in French, so make sure you listen to audio lessons as often as you can. “Listening is key, as spoken French often varies from written French.”
Step #2: Get A Visual of What You're Hearing

Having an access to a tutor is valuable, since you may have questions or may have trouble understanding some phrases. If you don't to access to a live person, you can get support online.
