Help! I Need To Learn To Speak French Fast!

So you're on your way to Paris in a few weeks, and you're ready to go. You've got your passport ready, mapped out all the sights you want to see, bought a few new outfits (hey you got to look good right?), and even found someone to watch the dog. You're not going to "master" the French language in a few weeks, especially if you're not immersed in a French speaking environment. BUT you can learn to carry simple conversations, understand what you are reading, and be able write proficiently - everything you need to communicate effectively.

Three Steps To Learning French In No Time...

There are only three elements you need when wanting to learn how to speak French quickly. You need to listen to the words from a voice with the correct accent and pronunciation, put those words to picture, and have access to a French speaking expert.

Step #1: Listen and Repeat

The best way to learn any language is by listening. If you think about it, that is how we learned our language as children. You would really have an advantage if you were able to listen to a a native speaker', as you will pick up the correct accent and pronunciation of words. You can easily get access to a speaker by audiobooks, cd's or software that you can download and put in on your mp3 player. As you listen to the audio, repeat the words and phrases exactly as you hear them. Repetition and practice is the key to becoming fluent in French, so make sure you listen to audio lessons as often as you can.

Step #2: Get A Visual of What You're Hearing

The more you are able to see what you are talking about, the better you will be at remembering those words. Audio is very important, but getting a picture to go with the sound will embed those French phrases in your mind. The best way is to get French software that has picture games. This type of learning not only makes learning french very easy, but very fun as well!

Step #3: Ask An Expert

Having an access to a tutor is valuable, since you may have questions or may have trouble understanding some phrases. If you don't to access to a live person, you can get support online. Google "learning french + forums" (without quotes) you find supportive French learning communities. Who knows, you may make a new friend or two?
