HERE'S WHAT I THINK
Is Grammar and spelling online meaningful to you?
The internet is a funny place, it doesn't spell check (well it kinda does, but not always), it doesn't correct your Grammar, it doesn't tell you if you are right or wrong. But yet we are hidden behind a veil of secrecy which doesn't reveal who we are, so we can presuppose whatever type of person we want.
I, personally, think I am some sort of writer. Yet I make some mistakes. Those don't bother me, others do.
We all can't be perfect, but perfect has differing levels. This debate is about people who grew up learning the language, and it doesn't include local dialects. We can debate accents and other language affectations later.
Does someone who should be able to speak perfect English, but doesn't, bother you?

First impressions are everything. I think we all can understand usage such as the following: c u l8er, thats just modern day shorthand and well accepted. But someone writing: sea yoo letter is just a moron. At least at first glance.

It's important, but I think that you have to distinguish between a native english speaking person and one who - may be speaks very well, but sometimes non correctly. With a little bit of attention you are able to understand who is talking/writing. By the way: 'errors' are sooooooo human.

Yeah, it bugs me when I "stumble" over a word spelled wrong or the grammar is bad. It's "rough" reading.

If the words are spelled creatively, then that is totally fine with me. I like a little humor and uniqueness in some articles. However, too much is too much. On the other hand, incorrect grammar is just plain irritating.

If there are easy to catch typos or misspellings in a sales letter, I tend to wonder about the quality of the product. If you are marketing something online, I think you can lose sales over it.

If there are several spelling errors or misuse of words-
than/then, sale/sell, etc., it turns me off. However, the more
copy that I read...the more I see that it is done repeatedly.

Absolutely. Most Certainly. There better be good grammar, or I would not read it.

Absolutely. If punctuality is the politeness of princes, then proper grammar and spelling are the politeness of us all!

Being a bit of a pedant, I would definitely (not definately!) say yes.
I find it hard to trust websites and programmes (yes, it happens a lot) that contain spelling and grammatical errors. The fact that (probably) more than 99% of spam contains these errors certainly doesn't help this prejudice!

Are we talking about British or American English, I've had problems with this for quite awhile :)

Yes, it is very meaningful for people who don't know english very good. If the word is written correctly, than they can easy to look for it in dictionary, but if its wrong...

While small things like incorrect grammar can be irritating, one must keep in mind that these are just the trivialities of Life, therefore one should keep all things in their proper perspective!

As a foreigner, I've learned grammar and spelling and I'm very conscious of it. So, I always try to do the best I can in everything I write. Consequently, I can usually spot mistakes in somebody else's writing.

No it doesn't mean that much to me. I'm a very bad speller and without spell check I'm totally lost. When I'm writting to MBF I just wing it. As long as they understand me I don't care, however at work it's another story. Spell Check gets a workout.:)

Not really I use abreveations all the time while online in chats and on blogs. I also use them when texting. Now I am not saying when you are writing up your resume online that you should tell them you are a happy, outgoing person who <3's to LOL. But if it is friends and everyday company go ahead and tell them you will TTYL.
