What happens when you get there?
More people would travel if they thought they wouldn't look silly standing in the middle of the airport gawking at everything, searching for some face that looks like it speaks the same language as they do. It's a helpless feeling, and it leads to an even bigger feeling of hopelessness and weakness that makes one feel extremely vulnerable Not a great way to start your big (and costly) adventure!
This is designed to help you survive and - even better - succeed by encouraging you to learn the basics of a new language. It will help you when you travel, help you meet new people, and - even if you don't travel right away - improve and strengthen your brain!
We'll be looking at travel, learning foreign language and tips for you when you finally do get to go somewhere.
And you don't even need to pack your suitcase!

Where's everybody going?
The top foreign travel destinations
The list has been fairly stable for years, and you can probably give it a good guess.
According to streetdirectory.com , yahoo.com , and globetrotters.com the top foreign travel destinations are as follows:
1- FRANCE
2- UNITED STATES
3- SPAIN
4- ITALY
5- CHINA
6- UNITED KINGDOM
7- RUSSIA
8- MEXICO
9- CANADA
10- GERMANY
If you're headed to the USA, Canada or the United Kingdom - you're way ahead - you already know how to read English! And probably even SPEAK it! (Of course, if Quebec is on your itinerary, the Engligh thing just got a little more involved!)
The rest of the Top 10 offer a little more complicated trip, but it shouldn't discourage you - there are plenty of ways to get along when traveling abroad. Be bold - go for it! But prepare yourself with some new language before you hit the road (or skies, or water).
HEY! You're not too old or too young to learn a second language! Traditional wisdom says the younger the better, but according to Carleton University (www.carleton.ca), no age stands out as better for second language learning (SLL). So you're OK - whether you're sixteen or seventy-six!
There are lots of programs, lots of theories and lots of ways to make this work! This site will be reviewing lots of them. You need to get ready and make a bold move! The spoken word is powerful (even if your high school French teacher made you feel like a moron), and you can do it!
