Learn How to DJ
Have you ever wanted to learn to DJ? This lens will focus on the information, tools, and techniques that will improve your DJ skills, no matter what level DJ you are now. The resources here are useful for both bedroom DJs and seasoned professionals alike. It will also focus on the distinctions between the various styles of "disc jockey."
DJs come in a lot of shapes and sizes including, but not limited to: Club DJs, Mobile DJs, Broadcast DJs, and Amateur DJs. The art of turntablism, mixing, and scratching is usually in the realm of the HipHop or dance oriented Club DJ, but can be found in other areas as well. Weddings, Birthdays, and Bar Mitzfahs are usually the venues for the Mobile DJ, although there are dance music DJs with mobile club systems.
Learning to Listen
Try to keep an open mind as you explore different styles and listen for the various rhythms, concepts, and emotions that make up the songs. Tempo and key are also important aspects of a song to remember, each relating to the speed and pitch of the music.
Check out some of the instructional books and DVDs on this site for extensive information on how to DJ. With a solid musical understanding, the right equipment, and a bit of practice, you can become a professional disc jockey or just amaze your friends.
