What is Funny?
Everyone has their own sense of humor and some people happen to like that sense of humor and others tend not to. People of ALL ages can be funny. You have seen those babies on Youtube with millions of views that make people laugh as well as Grandpa who always has something humorous to say or do.
We can laugh at people, objects, movies, sitcoms, books, pictures, cartoons, or just about anything. Heck, we can even crack ourselves up sometimes! We all like to have a good laugh now and then. As a matter of fact there have been many studies done that show that laughter is GOOD for us. We all need to laugh sometimes. Look at little kids, they laugh all the time. However, as we get older we tend to not laugh as much.
You are funny and if you organize your ideas in certain ways, you can make your audience laugh. Laughter is not something that can be turned on or off. Once we start, many times we are unable to stop.
Realize that just about everything can have a joke to it. You must learn to look at things from a different perspective if you want to find these things. Try looking at things from other peoples point of views.
Go out there and realize that you, yes YOU have the ability to make people laugh and make someones day.

5 Brainstorming Techniques for Creating your Material
There many different brainstorming exercises to help you with a routine for your comedy act. It is important to spend some time doing this to enhance your career as a comedian. You would be surprised how easily things will come to you if you try these simple steps.1. Always Carry a Notepad-Always have a way to record ideas that come up though out your day. You might come up with that great idea while your at the gas station, waiting in line, or on your way out to work. You can use your phone, carry a small notepad, a pack of sticky notes, or open a word document on your computer. It is really important to capture your ideas down so you don't forget.
2. Create Block Time-Find a time to sit down and don't do anything else or let anyone distract you. During this time, make a list of anything that is funny to you. During one session, write all the funny places you can think of, during another write down funny stories and so on. This time will be very valuable for you and will allow you to create lists of great material.
3. Have a brainstorming session-Get a group of friends together and brainstorm ideas for a comedy routine. Even if they are not interested in becoming a comedian, they will still be able to help you see things from a different perspective.
4. Study other comedians-Go on Youtube, rent a movie, or browse the internet to find other comedians and watch how they present their material. Be sure to take notes while doing this. It's alright to get inspiration from other people, but DO NOT copy any their material. This is stealing and can make you look bad. You should be taking note of things like the audience reactions, pauses, timing, movement on stage, and body language.
5. Talk to people-Go out and just talk to people around you. Get to know people and be friendly. As you are talking to them see how they react to you and when they smile or laugh. You might be surprised about the things you overlook everyday that are actually funny.
Go out there and have some fun with this. Always have an open mind and be creative!
