As parents and grandparents we all want to give our little ones the best start in life possible. And age appropriate educational toys are at the top of the list for great ways to give them that step up in life. This year there are hundreds of great new educational toys on the market. I've selected some of my favorites (and my grandson's also). Some of these are new this year and some have been around for a while. They are all great for inspiring fun in learning. Young preschool children love to have someone read to them. I read my grandsons plenty of childrens board books because after we finish they can flip through the strong sturdy pages themselves. Board books are prefect for little fingers to manipulate and can take rough play without being damaged. Many of today's board books come with interactive activities included like peek flaps and pop up figures to encourage curiosity and imagination.

Childrens Memory Games

Playing a memory, or "matching" game was one of my children's favorite activities when they were little. We used to play with a deck of cards and try to match the numbers. Now that my grand kids are at that age, I've found that there is a vast assortment of Memory Games on the market with popular characters and stimulating visual pictures on the cards. Memory is a fun learning game where the cards are placed face down on a surface and the players take turns flipping over two to try and find a matching pair. Remembering the position of the ones that had to be turned back over is challenging and fun for young minds and they get super excited when they succeed. It's a great recognition and memory stimulating game for children and adults too.
