Picking The Right Guitar For You

Well, the answer to this question is based upon what sort of musician you want to be.

Choose an Electric Guitar if...
- You want to form a rock, pop or blues band.
- Like playing grungy rock riffs or wailing lead guitar.
- You want to hook it up to amazing effects pedals
- You want to play lead guitar, be it Country, Pop, Rock and Roll.
- You want to be LOUD!

Pros:- Easier on the fingers, versatile
Cons:- Needs more equipment, leads, amplified, effects pedals... Easy to hear mistakes when plugged in...

Choose an Acoustic Guitar if...
- You're more into folk, country etc..
- You like to take you guitar on your travels, play on the streets, or start a sing-a-long in your local bar, house party..
- You'd like to learn finger picking songs.
- You just like to play rhythm

Pros:- Doesn't need to be plugged in, great for a variety of tuning patterns, good for complex picking patterns.
Cons:- Cuts into your fingers more, may need to wear finger picks.

Other types of Guitar
- Bass (Acoustic & Electric)
- Classical
- 12 String (Played the same way, just more sound!)
- Semi-Acoustic (Looks like regular acoustic but with plug-in ability.

Overcoming Initial Hurdles

Those little things that might put you off...

Sore fingers! We've all had them. Every single learning guitar player has had sore fingers. This is because the soft pads of our fingers need time to get used to pushing in the strings and forming a chord. This can be off-putting at the start, but PERSERVERE! Pain will ease with PRACTISE!!

Boredom. Tired of repeating chords over and over and over? Then buy a chord book of one of your favorite bands or singers. Its much more interesting this way and you will want to practise more!

Dont expect results straight away. Rome wasn't built in a day! It may take years to master the guitar but you can be jamming along to your favrite tracks within months or even weeks!
