Learning a new language is always fun and exciting. It not only improves your mind, but it always gives you a whole new interest and gives you a drive to excel in the language. Best of all, you're also giving yourself an advantage if and when you travel to a different country that mainly speaks the language which you are learning.

Just imagine heading off to Germany one summer. Sure you can get by with English, but it would be an exceptional thing if you manage to communicate with Germans in their native language. Not only does it make you look more like a serious traveler who is interested in their culture rather than a mere tourist, it also gives you the opportunity to learn about more things and places that non-German speakers otherwise wouldn't be able to find out.

If you are studying German for your holiday, there are some key phrases that you should keep in mind. Knowing what to say and how to say it will go a long way in your trip, and perhaps even win you some German friends who are willing to show you around and teach you more about their language!

For your first assignment

Learn how to say the following in German. You'll need them to get around!

2. Excuse me.

5. Do you speak/understand English?
6. Where can I find ______?
7. How do I get to ______?
8. Thank you.
