Alas, the pace of Rails has been so quick that the tools pointed to on this lens were completely and totally out of date. I intend to do something about that in the coming days and weeks and hope to bring together a great collections of resources. For now, enjoy the RSS feeds.

Do we need free tutorials? 

Is the community suffering?

The majority of rails tutorials available on-line for free deal with Rails in its infancy. Is the time now ripe for free, easily-distributable tutorials to help the next generation of coders get up to speed without having to fork out money?

It's a sad, but true, state of affairs about Rails right now: the best tutorials cost money. Lots of money. The free tutorials are woefully out of date, but we're hoping to fix that real soon now.

Agile Web Development with Rails: A Pragmatic Guide (Pragmatic Programmers)

A 2nd-edition is due out soon that brings this classic text up to date, but in the meantime, there are few books that will get you as familiar as this with the core material

Ruby can take some getting used to, and even experienced Ruby coders benefit from learning how best to use the language in this environment. Great book, worth every penny.
