Learning The Acoustic Guitar
Many people dream of one day being able to play the acoustic guitar. If you're like me, it started as a cool thing to do. After all, I thought to myself, wouldn't it be cool to be able to play well enough to impress my family and friends? I had dreams of playing to an audience and listening to thunderous applause.
Well, my dreams never became reality then as you'll discover, but now I'm well on my way and enjoying every minute!

Acoustic Guitar Horror
Guitar Beginners Lessons Gone Bad
A long time ago I used to be in the Merchant Navy. I roamed the high seas, working my way up from navigation apprentice, travelling the world and getting paid for it.
But one of the downsides of being at sea was the boredom when not on duty or in port, so I hit on the idea of learning to play the guitar. The idea was that I would while away the lonely nights and perhaps even master it enough to entertain the rest of the crew.
The sound of imagined applause ringing sweetly in my ears, I bought a brand new guitar as soon as we next went ashore, along with a "Teach yourself To Play the Guitar" book, and full of enthusiasm I began.
It was not as easy as I thought. Learning to read music, how to hold the guitar and oh my, nobody warned me how much my fingers would hurt!
I practised as much as I could but the "Teach Yourself" book wasn't much use. Not enough detail, it almost assumed I could play already.
I plugged away determined get proficient and finally, after many weeks of practice I could play "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star". Not very well, to be sure, but I was incredibly pleased with myself and determined to press on.
But (sigh), it was not to be. After a night of slight over-indulgence in a rather dubious local beer (Hey, give me a break - I was only 21!), I staggered to bed very late. My bunk was the top one in the cabin.
Some hours later I woke, desperate for the bathroom (local beer, remember!). I leapt out of bed, forgetting I was in the top bunk, only to land with an almighty crash on an object some idiot had left lying on the floor. Cursing with the pain I hobbled to the light switch, my foot still trapped in the object, only to discover it was my precious guitar. I had jumped right on top of it!
My foot was bruised and my guitar was snapped in half. I tried to repair it with Superglue, but it never sounded right after its ordeal, and I eventually threw it over the side in a temper.
I gave up learning to play after that - until now, nearly 30 years later.

Guitar Learning Failure
How Not To Play On The Guitar
My previous attempts to learn to play the guitar were in hindsight doomed to fail because of the following reasons:-
Today I'm learning to play again, but this time I'm determined to succeed. I have bought another guitar and I'm no longer in the Merchant Marine, so there's no danger of my putting my foot in it again!
- I had no real desire to learn to play - it was just a whim.
- The teach yourself product was fairly useless as it assumed knowledge I didn't have, and because it was a book it was difficult to follow.
- I broke my guitar

Free Guitar Online Lessons For You
This time I have a much better mental approach to playing the guitar. I no longer want to learn just to show off to my friends (although I could if I wanted to) and I have found after a lot of searching a product that I have found to be very effective. That product is Jamorama.Jamorama is a step-by-step programme that combines written work with video lessons and it makes learning to play a breeze! There are over 150 video lessons supported by two Ebooks, with a combined total of 251 pages! Because you can actually see the lessons as well as reading about them, the Jamorama system is the most effective way to absorb the new material - enabling you to master your guitar playing without developing the bad habits most beginners pick up.
The system has detailed instructions on how to master the most important skills including:-
- Using a pick
- Learn finger picking techniques
- Percussive strumming
- How to deaden
- The staccato strum
- Muting with your palm
- Bending
- Sliding
- And much, much more.
I could talk about Jamorama all day, but the easiest way for you to see what a fantastic Guitar Learning package it is, is to see it for yourself.
You can visit Jamorama by following the link.
For the price of one guitar lesson with a tutor you can have the entire system forever.
So what are you waiting for? There's nothing to lose by taking a look!
Playing The Guitar - What's Worked For Me
Learning To PlayThe and Offline
I have found the most effective method (although a little bit more expensive) has been a combination of methods. I bought the Jamorama system and followed its teaching method, but also included a private lesson with a tutor once a month.
Now I'm sure you could do without the private lesson but I've discovered a one-to-one session really helps with eliminating any bad habits before they become a problem. It also means any questions I have can be answered quickly and easily by a real person.
All the best,
Bob E Bartram
