Well, what can I say about Lea Salonga? I love her broadway musicales, songs, films and the way she sings seems so magical. Her talent and classy Filipina looks made her possible to capture the hearts of anyone watching her performing on stage. She started way back at the tender of age seven and look how far she had gone through. Salonga has performed for three American Presidents George W.H. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush and for her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the late Princess Diana.

Lea Salonga As a World-Class Performer
Lea Salonga as the first Asian to play in Les Miserables on Broadway as Eponine. Although her big breakthrough came when she auditioned to play Kim in the megahit musical Miss Saigon in 1989.
For her audition piece, she chose to sing Boublil and Schonberg's "On My Own" from Les Miserables and was later to ask to sing "Sun and Moon" to test the compatibility of her voice with the songs in the musical. In 1991, she coveted the Tony Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Musical for her role as "Kim" in Miss Saigon. Also earlier that year, she capped the prestigious "The Laurence Olivier Awards" for Best Actress in a Musical along with her co-star Jonathan Pryce who won as the Best Actor in a Musical. She made history that night with the distinction of being the First Filipino talent abroad, as well as the first Asian ever to have won in those prestigious awards. On June 2, 1991 Lea Salonga won the "Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Musical" trophy at the 1991 Tony Awards. Lea's co-star Jonathan Pryce, who portrayed the role of The Engineer, brought home the Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Musical Award. Hinton Battle won his third featured or supporting actor trophy for his role as John, the best friend of Kim's lover Chris. "This can't be for real. I remember watching this on TV when I was a little girl in Manila," cried Lea who jumped and screamed when she heard her name called as Best Actress. She wore a black Inno Sotto creation and brought as her date brother Gerard. In her acceptance speech, she thanked God "for all Her blessings" and the American Actors' Equity for "giving me the chance to come here to the United States." Still Humble Despite her Success
She expressed her feelings about winning the prestigious award in a hand-wriiten note telefaxed to Manila. The letter reads in full:April 9, 1990
Dear everyone,
Another Filipino victory, but this time in London's West End!
It was quite a nerve-wracking and emotional evening. I couldn't believe my name was called last night after all the nominees' names were announced, I couldn't and still don't, believe it!
It may seem as if it's pure glory and bathing in fame, but this award means to me only one thing: that we should, as artists, work even harder to achieve even more than we
already have. We must strive always for excellence in this our chosen field, and then
the world will know what the Philippines and the Filipino artists is all about.
Thank you. And, to quote the wise words of OPM-er Heber Bartolome:
"Ang ugaling talangka ay ating iwasan."
MABUHAY!
