Christmas in Leavenworth

A Slice of Bavaria in Washington State
The first time we traveled to Leavenworth was one spring years ago. I was captivated.
What we found was a quaint Bavarian style village right here in the Pacific Northwest. I thought I had never seen a more wonderfully charming place.
Then one year, we visited at Christmas time. A fresh snow was falling. The air was crisp and clean. Every shop and building in the entire town was adorned with beautiful lights and decorations. There was a town crier, joyful carolers, friendly people and even a horse-drawn carriage festively decorated with greens and reds jingling through the snow. It was as though we had been transported to another place and time. It was... magical.

A Brief History of Leavenworth
Chelan County Washington
Leavenworth, a small pioneer town that began in 1890, grew into a busy growing community due to the arrival of the Great Northern Railway Company. Jobs and businesses were formed. The town had their own sawmill and large logging operation. Unfortunately, the railway was re-routed and the sawmill was forced to shut down. The town struggled and barely survived this transition.
A bold plan to try and save the dying community took root in the early 1960's.The decision was made to completely change the face of the town and the little Bavarian Village of Leavenworth came into being.
Today, it has grown into a beloved picturesque place to visit. People come from all over to experience the beauty of the village with it's surrounding mountains and the many festivals and attractions.
