The Future of Lighting is Here! Welcome to LED Light Bulbs Reviews!

Welcome to LED Light Bulbs Reviews!
Did you ever wonder why your electric bill is so high every month? Do you wish there was a way to drastically cut that bill down to size? Well on this lens, I want to show you just exactly how do that.

If you haven't heard by now, let me be the first to inform you that the LED lighting revolution has begun. Incandescent light bulbs are scheduled to stop being manufactured in 2012. These are the old fashioned bulbs that burn a filament to produce light, and are power hogs.

The compact fluorescent bulbs have been replacing these and are much more efficient and cheaper to run, but the LED bulbs are substantially even more efficient and environmentally friendlier than the compact fluorescents! LED bulbs are the future of lighting!
I hope you find this LED light bulbs reviews lens helpful!

A Little History of Light Bulbs.

The Incandescent Light Bulb.

Ahhh, The old standby, the incandescent light bulb. It has served all of us well for many years, but before this was invented, the idea had been around for quite a while. No one could perfect this idea until 1879.

About 1877, Thomas Edison had some ideas on how to make a practical light bulb and got to work on it. After about 1-1/2 years of intense efforts and trails, he had perfected the incandescent light bulb. The bulbs of this type available today still use this same basic technology with minimal improvements.

The light this type of bulb produces is very useful, but now that we have other choices, the down side of this bulb is painfully obvious.

The biggest downside is that approximately 90% of the power consumed by an incandescent light bulb is emitted as heat, rather than as visible light. These bulbs also do not last very long, so the cost of power consumption and bulb replacement is high.

Now, with the evolution in lighting technology, we now have much better choices.

The Next Step, The Compact Flourescent Light Bulb.

A Substantial Improvment in Efficiency.

type=textHere is the 2nd generation of household lighting, the CFL screw in bulb.

These bulbs represent a substantial increase in efficiency, as they outlast the incandescent bulbs by about 12x and only use 20 to 33 percent of the power.

As an example, a standard 40 watt replacement would only use about 9-13 watts of power. A pretty good savings!

The biggest downside of these bulbs is the poisonous mercury that is in the tube. When they finally do blow out, the disposing of these bulbs becomes an issue. Mercury can leach out from dumps, poisoning our water supply and damaging the environment. Not Good, so proper disposal is extremely important!

And Finally.......The King Of All Bulbs, The LED !

The 3rd Generation of Household Lighting!

type=textFinnaly, an extremely efficient and enviomentaly friendly light bulb is here! LED technology has been around for quite a while, but was not a realistic alternative for general household lighting, until now!

Over the past several years, the LED lighting technology for practical use in a bulb for the home, has made huge advances. Practical LED bulbs are now available for home use, and boy, are these things efficient!

The up front cost of an LED bulb is higher than the incondescents, but don't be fooled. The cost of these bulbs over thier life time is actually significantly less than all other options.

As an example, the bulb pictured here only uses 7 watts of power to replace a 40 watt incondescent bulb! This bulb will last up to 50,000 hrs! At 8 hrs a day, that's 17 years, and only cost about 2 dollars a year in power costs!

Sometimes, change doesn't come easy.
If you are not convinced about the LED light bulbs just yet, I would recomend trying a bulb like this first. This is a terrific 60 watt replacment bulb for a lamp.

Try it in a reading lamp or on your nightstand. You will soon be feeling good about the money your saving while at the same time, helping the enviorment, and you better get used to this bulb because it will be around for many years!

Most bulbs come in a choice of "cool white" or "warm white". I highly recomend the "warm white" version. The warm white is very much like the light in the old fashioned incandescent bulbs. Happy Lighting!

Why LED Bulbs Are a No Brainer!

The cost savings are real.

Incandescent lamps are generaly manufactured to have a lifespan of about 750 hours or 1,000 hours.
The LED bulbs will last up to 50,000 hrs!

When you look at the costs to run traditional incandescent bulbs, they simply don't make sense any more.

One - 100 Watt bulb costs about $43 dollars to run per year at 12 hours per day. But don't forget that since an incandescent bulb only lasts 1000 hours, chances are you would have bought at least 4 replacement bulbs over the course of the year, bringing your total cost for just one light fixture to $50.

Now let's compare this to.........

One - 10 Watt LED costs about $4.30 to run per year at 12 hours per day. Since it was on for approximately 4000 hours it still has nearly 10 years of life! Even throughout its entire 11 year life, a 10 watt will cost approximately $120 while a traditional fixture using an incandescent bulb will cost nearly $550!

As you can see, replacing the majority of the lighting in your home with LED bulbs can really add up in terms of real money saved, and you are aslo helping the enviorment with less green house gasses and no polutants when discarded!

So How Exactly Does an LED Light Work?

For all the techies!

type=text

The of Physics of an LED from Wikipedia:

Like a normal diode, the LED consists of a chip of semiconducting material doped with impurities to create a p-n junction. As in other diodes, current flows easily from the p-side, or anode, to the n-side, or cathode, but not in the reverse direction.

Charge-carriers-electrons and holes-flow into the junction from electrodes with different voltages. When an electron meets a hole, it falls into a lower energy level, and releases energy in the form of a photon, which is the light we see.

1 LED light by itself does not produce enough light for a lamp, but when many are stacked up in an array and designed into a bulb shape, enough light is produced for an incandescent replacement light bulb!

Note to Self

Why not try just 1 LED bulb first, to see for myself how these bulbs work and how the light looks?

LED Bulbs vs CFL Bulbs

What do you think?

Are you going to upgrade to LED bulbs?

Yes, right away. I want to start saving money and the enviorment!

lilaiv says:

yes, it is a plan, next replacement for lamps.

CreativeArtist says:

LED sounds like a much better choice.

pds523 says:

I actually started out by purchasing (4) 2 watt LED candelabra screw base bulbs to replace (4) 60 watt bulbs I had outside the garage. These 4 bulbs where on all night every night sucking up 240 watts!

Now the 4 LED bulbs are using only 8 watts! These are not quite as bright, but they are absolutly bright enough to clearly see all around at night!
Great power savings!

No, I think the CFL's are cheap enough and I will dispose of these properly so the mercury is not a problem. I will wait for the LED bulbs to come down in price.
