LED TV is new phrase you may have seen making an appearance in technology related media recently. What is this new trend all about?

A more appropriate name for this newcomer might be LED-lit LCD Television. As the name might suggest LED or light emitting diodes are beginning to replace the fluorescent lights that have been used to light LCD TVs up to this point.

This isn't just buzzword invented by advertisers as a ploy to sell more TVs, there are true advantages to be had from the use of LEDs in high definition televisions.

Firstly they improve to colours and contrast of images that can be produced due to the properties of light produced by LEDs when compared with fluorescent lights.
Also LEDs are smaller and allow for the design of super-slim displays. As an added bonus LED TVs are also up to 40% more energy-efficient than standard LCD TVs and 50% more efficient than plasma TVs.

As with all new technology it comes at a cost, but this will surely improve as LED TV becomes more popular.
