About Lee Evans

I love Lee Evans and realized there wasn`t a lens around for him, so thought I should make one.

Lee born 1964 was introduced to showbiz at a very early age his father Dave Evans, still performs at clubs and piers and he was often left in the car or backstage with his brother chatting to the dancers while his dad was doing his act.

Lee had a short spell as a boxer did two years at art school, then decided to follow in his fathers footsteps. His first four years were spent touring clubs and the next five on the alternative curcuit but his break came in 1988 at the Edinburgh Festival.

Since then Lee Evans` standup and live television appearances have had the nation in hysterics. Famous for his very physical brand of comedy, and tendency to play the underdog, he has often been compared to Norman Wisdom.

Lee-Evans

Lee Evans is one of the rare UK comedians to have scored major hits at the cinema. Making his film debut in Funny Bones, he then found international fame with his roles in There's Something About Mary, Mouse Hunt and even along side Bruce Willis in The Fifth Element.

Evans broke the Guinness World Record for a solo act performing to the biggest comedy audience at the Manchester Evening News Arena in 2005 when he played to a crowd of 10,108. However, hes set to smash his own record by almost doubling that total in just two nights at the O2 Arena in London 2008.

His manic energy, hilarious delivery and side-splitting material have made his live performances a must-see for comedy fans around the world with more than a quarter of a million people seeing his sold out 2005 XL Tour.

Lee Evans XL Tour - Live Review

Good Points: Everything

Bad Points: None

General comments: Myself and my husband were lucky enough to get to see Lee Evans at the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester on Saturday the 19th of November 2005 as part of his XL Tour.

What a fantastic evening!!

He did not once fail to capture the audience's imagination with his charm and wit. He was on stage for 2 hours with one 15 minute break, and he dealt amicably with the one or two audience members who were constantly shouting at him to do his Bohemian Rhapsody sketch. His response was "I can't hear you, call me later". As always Lee never fails to wow his fans, and he even accommodated the few who kept shouting by performing his famous Bohemian Rhapsody sketch at the end of the show, which was absolutely fantastic.

The show contained many puns about Manchester culture, such as football, which pleased the male members of the audience. It was as though he had written the show specifically for the Manchester audience, but it came across in a hysterically impromptu manner. His various Northern accents were spot on, and he portrayed the characteristics and psychology of the stereotypical Mancunian perfectly. His brand of slap-stick comedy always has the nation in hysterics.

Lee Evans

He has successfully established himself as a well respected International comedian, with his feet remaining firmly on the ground and still coming across as the boy next door done good. I have to admit that I am very picky when it comes to comedians, and I don't always get the sense of humour, but Lee Evans manages to portray everyday life in a hysterically funny way. His repertoire on the XL tour was excellent, and the show was exceedingly well written and produced, with gags such as his wife collecting pebbles and always buying candles, and then complaining about the depleting planet and ozone layer. How women love romance, and how they expect men to still feel romantic when they end up sitting at the tap end of the bath, while the women recline comfortably in the lounge position.

The joke about London hosting the Olympic Games in the East End, and how when the builders move in to start the work, all the London gangsters will start panicking in case anything is dug up, left not a dry eye in the Arena. As always he managed to take everyday events and deliver them in the most uproarious way. Lee Evans has come a long way since his talent was discovered at the Edinburgh festival in 1988. He then went on to make his film debut in Funny Bones, and he has also starred in Movies such as Mouse Hunt, and There's Something About Mary in 1998 alongside Cameron Diaz, Matt Dillon and Ben Stiller.

Lee Evans

In 2004 he also played the leading role in the psychological thriller Freeze Frame, where he plays a paranoid man who keeps himself under surveillance, and is then accused of murder. The XL Tour Live 2005 DVD is released on the 28th of November 2005, and if the show is anything to go by then I think this will be a massive hit with Lee Evans fans worldwide. Obviously the DVD won't contain all the Manchester gags as it is aimed at a much wider audience. Lee will also be starring in two new movies in the coming year. One is Jester Hill which is an animated movie, where he will provide the voice of Jester. The other is Plots With A View, which is a comedy starring Christopher Walken (star of Pulp Fiction and The Prophecy, to name but a few), and Brenda Blethyn (One of my favourite British actresses).

Lee Evans is without a doubt a British icon, and was already high enough in my estimations of him before, but he more than excelled my expectations on the XL tour.

Lee Evans
Wired And Wonderful
Live At Wembley
[2002]

This was my first ever DVD i have watched of Lee Evans and he had me in stitches from the off. Hes energy, facial expressions and different voices had me rolling around the floor in laughter, and the stories and jokes that he tells are brilliant. Since watching this DVD i have bought several other Lee Evans titles and must say, this one had me laughing the most, dont get me wrong there all funny, but this one made me laugh so much it hurt.

Lee Evans
XL Tour
Live
[2005]

This is a must buy for any Lee Evans fan, i caught his live show in cardiff on teh 26th of october and from the start i couldnt stop laughing and crying. This surely is Lee Evans' best performance, he 's back and armed with new jokes and hilarious actions to accompany them, he is truely one of the best comedians of all time. This DVD will complete any selection of Lee Evans' tours aound the world. quite simply a masterpiece, a must have!

Lee Evans
Live From The West End

As an avid Lee Evans fan, I obviously had high expectations with this, and wow is it good! I actually caught Lee in his tour of the West End, so it was almost exact that I ws going to buy this. His jokes are amazing, his energetic ploy exciting and overall enthusiastic humour kept high and mighty. For fans of Lee, this is a real must. I have now purchased Lee's 6-boxset ive collection which includes this, but this (Along with XL and Live In Scotland) has to be one of Lee's funniest ever dvd's.

Lee Evans
Different Planet Tour
[1996]

Once again i am delighted by another Lee Evans performace, ok so this dvd focuses on the last show of a mid nineties tour, but it's still great to see the "monkeyboy" in all his energetic comedy madness. Some of the stuff in this show had me in pain from excessive laughter, especially the part about shopping with the wife and talking to strangers, I think it's great how he takes everyday run of the mill subjets like Travelling and using public transport and put's his own crazy insight's into them. This dvd is a must buy for any Lee Evans fan.

Lee Evans
Live At Her Majesty's Theatre
[1994]

What can I say? This is the funniest stand-up show I have ever seen! The lovable, rubber faced comic delivers his brand of jumpy, physical and absoloutly hysterical humour on the first of his stand-up videos! You can't not like this man. I have seen old grannies in their 80's wetting their pants just as he first jumps on to the stage! So watch as the sweaty man with no-neck tickles your chuckle muscle!

Lee Evans
The World Of Lee Evans
[1995]

This has to be the most original funniest thing i have seen. This video includes some of lee evans finest sketches and they are hilarious, they range from dodgy hitchhikers, to robbers in a shop, to a regular over-night train trip (which as those who know lee evans, it is never regular!) a brilliant hilarious video, i have watched it thousands of times and it never fails to amuse me!

Lee Evans
Big
Live at the O2

seen live at the dome summer 2007, what an incredible experience, would definitley recommend the dvd. 10 out of 10.

The Martins
[2001]

This film is a must for everyone. I enjoy Lee Evans' stand up, but was a little sceptical about how he would appear on the big screen. He was an absolute revelation, brilliantly acted and his timing is pure perfection.

Lee Evans
So What Now? Series 1
[2001]

Theirs no doubt that anyone can't say that Lee Evans is one of the funniest & finest commediennes ever & always has you laughing, this DVD has the complete series of "So What Now" which is a very entertatining show, the DVD has great value because not only do you get a bonus DVD that has absolutely LOADS of footage on it (including a fantastic Lee Evans documentry) but the actualy DVD is also a double sided disc aswell with the whole series on it (so it's like having 3 DVD's), Lee is definately by far best as stand up & i don't think this show is anything to compare to him as a stand up although the DVD is fantastic & very funny (Check out the hilarious "Swingers" episode), Lee's best stand up's are the "Live In Scotland" & "Wired & Wonderful" which DO truly show Lee at his best & i don't think their is anyone who can sit & watch it without laughing (so many things he says & does (action wise) are very true to life.. & you can really relate to them also.. very funny things) but this show has some great storys, great entertainment & the out-takes are also really cool.. a fantastic DVD & great value for money ! !
