True Confessions of a Squidoo Addict

This lensography features the most popular lenses on Squidoo by Pastiche - that's me. New lenses appear at the beginning of this lens. More unpublished lenses are on the way and will "go live" quite soon. Join my fan club - you'll get a Squidcast heads-up when I update one of your favorites.

I'm totally tangled in the Squidoo tentacles and working hard on my lenses every day. I blog about Squidoo - you can view my Squidoo stats, find online marketing tips, links to SEO utilities, and my favorite Squidoo-related sites and lots more that's related to my Squidoo universe.

Lensmasters get rewarded for writing Squidoo lenses - web pages that focus on a single topic. You write about what you know and like, and you share your knowledge as a Squidoo community member. It was almost by accident that my life took this wonderful turn - in fact my meeting with the unnamed orange monocular was pure serendipity and it was love at first lens. Now I am completely addicted to this love for Squidoo, and happy to spread the word. I became a Giant Squid July 1, 2008.

See, it's not a bad thing to be addicted to Squidoo! Join Squidoo and you can become a Giant Squid, too. It's free and easy to sign up and become a lensmaster - click here to start - you'll love it!

How I Fell In Love With Squidoo

LEE HANSENDo I love Squidoo? Oh yes, I do.

Here's the short version of how I became a Squidoo lensmaster (and grew into a GIANT SQUID).

I'm a geeky grandma who makes clip art, writes freelance articles, and thrives on web marketing. I was reading my server logs like a good SEO code warrior one day when I spotted some traffic that originated from a Squidoo lens. Now, I've been building web sites since 1996, so I'm familiar with most of the usual traffic origins for my web sites and (more recently) my blogs.

Well, after I landed on the referral page, I was impressed, so I checked out the system and tested the Squidoo community waters as a newbie lensmaster. After only a few weeks I got caught up in the whole Squidoo community like, well, like a hooked fish. In just over year I've built more than 70 Squidoo lenses on topics that interest me.

OK! I admit it! I'm addicted to Squidoo. It's a far worse compulsion than my lifelong love for caffeine and chocolate. But it's a lot easier to manage my growing school of lenses than it is to manage 4 big web sites on 2 web servers (not to mention more cost-effective) and a half-dozen or more blogs.

Graphics and Design Lenses

Digital Design, Printing, Web Sites

I write about what I know - graphic design, printing and web stuff.

My Web-O-Graphy

I've been publishing online since 1995 ... I'm not a guy, and I don't sell real estate.

I've designed, coded and managed daily updates and marketing for hundreds of web sites since 1995. I learned the basics from 2 technical publishing pioneers - Patti Anklam, who mentored me in generic markup/SGML/SDML, TeX programming and distributed publishing at Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) between 1981 and 1988; and Nancy Hoft, who gave me a one-on-one Q&D tutorial in HTML, information design and web site architecture in 1995.

The short list of my most active web sites:

Lee Hansen Graphics Original free clip art and coloring books from my drawing sandbox. I explore new ideas and drawings on this site before I make them into commercial graphics and craft patterns.

Pastiche Family Portal My biggest web site, both in terms of content and traffic, this site attracts more than 21,000 unique visitors every day.

Clip Art 'n Crafts Printable crafts, clip art collections, folding papers, borders and backgrounds plus fonts and other goodies for free download. This site offers samples of free paper crafts plus graphics and goodies to go with them: fonts, borders, backgrounds and coloring pages, including coloring designs for adults.

Blue Stone Studios Marketing, graphic design, fine arts collective conglomeration featuring work by members of my creative extended family. This 2001 site layout design pioneered fixed-width layout and controlled columns, a tactic employed today by many blogs and Web 2.0 site templates. Watch for a complete redesign in 2009 ...
