Are you a lefty too?

How have you coped with using right handed instruments so far?

From the lens Left-Handed Gifts for Lefties.

(Thoughts from right-handed peeps are welcome too of course!)

I was lucky that my dad was a leftie so there was someone who help me with writing. But I did hate those right-hand arm chairs in school. You always have to twist yourself to get a better writing position.

My lodger is strongly left handed and it has really brought it home how awkward my right-handed world can be for a leftie (mind you, she is so spatially inept she could be dyspraxic). That said, why to right handed Arabs never complain about writing from right to left?

Interesting lefty facts. I didn't know they had greater spatial awareness. The most popular lefty tool I've seen is the guitar/bass and scissors. Outside of that I had no clue they made special desks for left handed people.

Being a lefty isn't easy with the tools and such made for a right-handed world. One thing that always makes me angry as a teacher is seeing how my left handed kids struggle with writing, because they were not taught how to write properly. I'm so glad you have the video for this. It's much like the way I help my students. Thanks for this research.

I am right-hander but i see a lot of troubles lefties goes through. Even now, when we have so much tools made just for left-handers our world is still made for right-handed people.

I was bought a great pair of wilkinson sword scissors when I was ten - still have them and they are still great! tin openers are a must and I now own a left handed bread knife and I love being able to cut straight slices!

Great information. I did not realize how many issues lefties had.
  • MadzGiant Feb 21, 2011 @ 3:26 am | delete
i find writing on whiteboards and blackboards extremely difficult as you end up wiping half your writing away!
  • ChrisDay Jan 15, 2011 @ 2:00 am | delete
There are few things I find tricky as a lefty - one is filling in a cheque book - the stubs always get in the way!

Lensrolled to my Left-Handed Gifts for Left-Handed People. I could have saved myself a lot of work if I'd seen that you had the topic covered so thoroughtly.

Oh, you always create superb lenses. I am a lefty who really appreciates the thought put into the products on this page.

I'm a lefty and have adapted to the right handed world. I cut with my right hand, you the mouse with my right hand, and all other simple tasks in which a device is needed to accomplish. I love being left handed! I've always enjoyed being different than other people, and telling them that i'm in my right mind. Thanks for this sight.

I should pass this lens over to my husband, he is left handed and I am right although I can use my left hand a lot. He has the hardest time with scirrors! Congratulations on becoming a SquidAngel!!

I automatically open a book from the back isn't that a left-handed thing? Otherwise I write LH but use the right for most other things. At school I was told we were the first year where left-handers would not be forced to write RH.

Great lens. I am right handed and so is my husband but both my sons are left handed! I had to use my left hand to see how to hold the pen when I was teaching them to write. we didn't want to force them to use their right hands.

Oh, I am right handed through practice. I was born left handed, but I was trained by mom and dad to instinctively use right. You can say I was converted, LOL.

Wow, what an idea! I am right handed, but never knew such objects designed for lefties exist!
  • triathlontraining Nov 19, 2009 @ 1:10 pm | delete
I'm still waiting for the left-handed steering wheel.
    Very fun lens!

This is a fantastic lens! I'm right handed but I play golf like a left handed person, always mis-placed my watch - my mother obliged me to put it on my left arm instead of what I did: the right one seemed so normal... Before visiting your lens, I thought of Ned Flanders' Leftorium... and just saw it here! I'm really pleased to have found this lens!
    Dom.

Awesome! One of my brothers is left handed and I never considered that he would need a watch or mouse specifically made for left handed use! Thank you for the recommendations!
  • jgelien Nov 11, 2009 @ 3:48 pm | delete
I am left-handed only when I write and brush my teeth. I cannot cut or throw with my left hand.
Other things I do equally well with both hands. Strange. I really like your lens. 5 *****
