Left Behind - The Series

Christian Book Series on the Rapture of Christ's Church; Written by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins (see authors' bios below). This is a series that started out in written format (with the first book released on December 31, 1995) but became so popular, that on February 2, 2001, the movie version of Left Behind was released in the United States. Two more sequels followed: On October 29, 2002 the movie Left Behind II: Tribulation Force was released in the United States with Left Behind 3: World at War, following on October 21, 2005.

I have personally read the entire original series and own all three movies on VHS and DVD. Even though these books and movies are fictional, a lot of the story line is based upon scripture. However, take heed, as this series is based on a pre-trib rapture when scripture actually tells us otherwise. Putting aside the fact that the Rapture is supposed to take place near the end of the Great Tribulation and not before like the series portrays, the rest of the scripture translated in the books and movies appear to be accurate. It is pretty cool to have scripture applied to real life situations.

Most Christians would love for the Rapture to take place before the world plummets to an all-time low, but it doesn't look like that will be the case at all. By reading these books, I learned a lot more scripture than I had ever known before. There is even a Left Behind series for kids, as well as a series for the teens.

NEW LEFT BEHIND MOVIE RELEASE?: I was hoping that a new movie would soon be released... but unfortunately I haven't been able to find any rumors of a new one on the horizon. If I do catch wind of an upcoming 4th sequel, I will most definitely let you all know!

Left Behind - The Movie

U.S. Release: February 2, 2001

PLOT SUMMARY: Rayford Steele is an airline pilot whose relationship with his wife has gone sour;he ponders having an affair with an attractive flight attendant, Hattie Durham. In the midst of a flight to London, a number of their passengers mysteriously disappear, and chaos takes hold as a number of vehicles on the ground and in the air are suddenly unmanned. Meanwhile, Buck Williams, a television journalist, is pondering the rash of sudden disappearances as he works on a report about Dr. Chaim Rosenzweig, an Israeli scientist who has devised a formula that would make any soil on earth easy to cultivate. However, Buck wonders if there's more to Rosenzweig than he first imagined when he discovers the doctor is in cahoots with two multi-millionaires who plan to broker the invention to promote their own agenda of international domination. Learn the TRUTH About the Great Tribulation!
How much do you know about the tribulation? The tribulation is a seven-year period that immediately precedes the return of Christ and the establishment of His millennial kingdom.

The first 3½ years of the tribulation will be a time of peace and cooperation (also referred to as the birth pains). After that, the next 3½ years (referred to as the Great Tribulation) will be a time of war and catastrophic events.
