LI Leftys Place

Welcome!

Around 15% of the World's population are left handed. Left hand golfers are even more of an oddity. Only 10% of golfers are said to be left handed.

Have you found it easy to buy left hand golf clubs? Left hand players are often at a disadvantage because of a lack of quality instructional materials and equipment.

Instructors tend to focus on right hand golfers and so does the majority of the available training material. If you notice the way tees and holes are angled and the positioning of obstacles you realize that Golf Courses also favor the right hand player.

As a left hand golfer, you have to mentally reverse golf instruction. Doing this mental gyration is not easy and usually leads to poor technique. Perfecting your swing and lowering your score becomes more difficult.

In addition, left hand golfers don't have much of a selection of where to purchase equipment. This lens specializes in left hand golf information and related links. We do hope that you find the lens useful and that you will return here to contribute comments, links and suggestions.

Tales Of The Left Hand Golfer

Yesterday I decided it was time for a much deserved mental health day. I played the Links at Shirley once a few years ago, and being close to home it seemed like the perfect place to unleash my demons and restore my soul. Or so I thought!

The golf course teamed me up with two nice guys, Sam and George a father and son duo from East Quogue. We all felt ambitious that day and agreed to play the Blues, 6608 yards. You could not ask for a better day, clear blue skies and a soft breeze.

The first hole is a dogleg left 493 yards and I hit a 270-yard bomb that landed smack in the middle of the fairway and ended up with a bird. This exactly is why I play golf! I parred the next 3 holes. I was one under after four.

On five I bombed another great drive right onto the beach in from of the green, Sam had made almost the exact same shot before me, we were both having a similar game that day so I should have learned from his mistake and used less club.

I could have laid up in from of the huge trap, gone over it on my second and been on in two. I bogeyed 5 and 6. I rallied the remainder of the front paring he last three holes with a score of 37. There was no question in my mind that I would break 80.

My Friends, it was the "Tale of Two Nines". Those of you that know me have heard me say this many times and yesterday was no exception. The clouds rolled in, the temperature dropped and the wind kicked up.

Not only did I not break 80, I didn't break 90 I shot a 91. I won't bore you with the details, mainly because I can't bring myself to do it.

The course is in great shape, the greens some of the best I played in a long time. I have yet to play a course that favored the Lefty Golfer but I would say that The Links at Shirley is definitely Lefty friendly. They do a great job of staying on top of everyone to keep up the pace of play.

We played in four and a half hours. I will come back and check in out again in the spring, by then I should have forgotten my back nine. The price is a bit steep for the average golfer so you may not play it often but it is worth playing at least once.

If you are from out of town looking for a great public course not to far from the Hamptons then I highly recommend it.

I am going to Vermont next weekend so e-mail me at lilefty@aol.com with any course suggestions, and we can compare notes.

Helpful Hints and Tips For The New Golfer

Don't spend a lot of money right away. Find out why!

Just about everyone who learns to play golf, loves the game. There are many different reasons people get together for golf. It has always been a great place to discuss business ideas, get to know co-workers or just meet up with good friends for a bit of friendly competition and gossip.

As a new golfer, one of the most important things to keep in mind is to avoid spending a lot of cash on brand new equipment.

I have placed some very helpful tips on my HubPages site for new golfers who are considering the purchase of golf clubs and other golf equipment.

If you found the article to be helpful, please putt a comment or two my way.

Pimp My Golf Cart

Turn Your Golf Cart Into A Golf Car!

If you own a golf cart for getting around a ranch, running a business or just cruising around the golf course, then you will most likely be spending a considerable amount of time in your golf cart.

If that's the case, making improvements to your golf cart may be of interest to you. It doesn't matter if you want the regular or executive level accessories, I have some ideas that you may want to consider as you shop around.

A major consideration for most is that the cost of accessories can't interfere too much with other expenses. If you are on a limited budget, there are ways to make small changes which will enhance your ride.

A few simple suggestions might be to get an under seat storage tray or cooler, add plush seat covers or perhaps a cup or cell phone holder. Those ideas are some of the many useful accessories and least expensive ways to improve your golf cart.

Depending on your climate or necessity, other useful items you may want to consider include full enclosures, heaters or air conditioners. Screened enclosures are also a great addition for warmer climates.

Exterior lighting is very useful and will extend the use of your cart each day. In open spaces lighting will permit driving around at higher speeds. Lighting can be a huge asset for many reasons when looking after your business property.

Extreme golf cart options are the accessories which will totally make your cart over. Purchase a body kit to transform your golf cart into a golf car.

Doing this provides no real value, but it sure is a great source of entertainment for those thinking about the fun of doing a makeover. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that there are extreme golf cart makeover competitions somewhere.

Hey, if people make over cars, homes other people and pets, why not an extreme cart makeover? As long as the idea doesn't lead to another cable TV show, it's OK!

A full golf car makeover may also include items such as windshields, custom paint and wheels, a GPS System or just about anything else your mind can conjure up.

So, if the thought of improving your golf cart has crossed your mind, your only limitations are your imagination and the cash which is now burning a big hole in your pocket!

Whatever you decide, I hope you enjoy the makeover and that this article has provided a bit of insight into the ways of pimping your ride!

The Three Secrets to a Perfect Golf Swing

The Doctor of Golf Stroke Engineering

I found this article informative and thought I'd share some of its highlights. The entire article can be seen over on ezinearticles.com.

The Swing Doctor Is In:
Chuck Evans is the man with an actual "Doctorate in Golf Stroke Engineering" and has been both Director of Schools for the PGA Tour Golf Academy and Director of Instruction for United States Golf Institute. Rather impressive I'd say.

According to article, learning the "Three Secrets" will change your golfing life forever! So what are those secrets? How will they affect your game and are they really the holy grail of the golf stroke? Well, I will let you decide that for yourself.

This information is not theory but a practical application of science. So here were go, get out your scientific calculator and brush up on your quadratic equations. No, don't get scared off, these are just simple principals of force and motion which control our every day life on planet earth.

Secret #1: "The Flat Left Wrist"

A golf stroke is a combination of club, wrist and left arm. Your wrist is "between" club and arm and acts as a "hinge pin". A hinge pin can move in several ways such as rotation but it must NEVER bend.

Incorrectly bending of the wrist has net effect of causing the clubhead to reach ball before your hands. Chuck calls this the "quitting" motion which adds "loft" to clubface and redirects face of club to left (or right) of its target.

Worse yet, it has the effect of causing the clubhead to move in an upward direction and disrupts the downward motion which is critical to every successful swing. Players who DELOFT are successful and players who ADD LOFT are the poor players because doing that costs them distance, direction and trajectory.

When using a 5 Iron, you must lean about 15 degrees at impact. This turns 5 Iron into a 4 Iron. Poor players lean the shaft back which ADDS LOFT and also turns 5 Iron into a 6 or 7 Iron.

Secret #2: "The Staright Plane Line"

There is no middle ground in the swing plane. You are either off or on it. OK, so what exactly is swing plane? A swing plane is the angle of the clubshaft as it "sets its address".

The article continues on to say there are only three planes; horizontal (wall), vertical (floor), inclined (some place between other two planes). Of course golfers use the inclined plane to awing back and up then down and forward which in effect makes the golf stroke three dimensional.

So the clubshaft is the sweet spot which travels through the "in between planes" during the swing. However, it CANNOT cross the base of plane if it is properly done.

Whichever end of the club is nearer to ground MUST point at the "base of plane" from horizon to horizon. If neither end is nearer then the CLUBSHAFT MUST be horizontal to the ground and parallel to the base of plane.

Secret #3: "The Lagging Clubhead"

When a clubhead passes the hands at impact there is no lag or trailing action. Without lag, the golf ball cannot be compressed which results in a "power loss". Proper "clubhead lag" provides even acceleration and distance control. It is very important to remember to keep the left arm and clubshaft in one line. When this happens your swing is generating proper lag and the ball explodes off the clubface! Otherwise there is a soft impact with poor results.

Conclusion

I hope you found this except of Chuck's article useful and you put it into practical use. If you find that your game does improve, please leave a comment below. I would appreciate that very much.

Protecting Your Golf Clubs

There is no substitute for a high quality, secure Travel Case

As we know all too well, golf is a sport which usually leads to a substantial investment over time. High quality clubs are expensive and most feel a sense of pride in their investment. After spending your hard earned cash for equipment, you should spare no expense when it comes to protecting your golf clubs.

Protecting your golf clubs is best achieved by using a Stand Style Travel Case. For air travel or anyone on the go, the hard sided travel cases are best, for trips to the local country club, soft sided cases are more than adequate.

For a Callaway brand duffel bag, you can expect to pay around $65.00. It makes better sense to give up the brand name insignia and purchase the common styles of cases and bags like pouches, duffel bags and shoe totes from your local department stores. However, when it comes to protecting your golf clubs, there is no substitute for a high quality Travel Case.

Golf Club Travel Cases vary greatly in price. Callaway Stand style helmeted Travel Bags can range between $200 to $400 depending on the level of protection which the case offers. Just like any other equipment you own, it always makes sense to compare prices and to ask the advice of others before making your final purchase decision.

Other than the leading names in golf equipment, some common luggage manufacturers now sell golf Travel Cases. Samsonite, Burton or Trav-a-lite may offer better prices for Travel Bags. A few names which also come to mind are Golf Guard, Sweet Spot and Lefty's Pro Shop. Lefty's Pro Shop is an eBay store where you will find great prices on a wide assortment of golf gear. Lefty's Pro shop is an authorized affiliate of Callaway Golf Pre-Owned equipment. You may just find the Travel Case from these collections which is perfect for you.

How Golf Clubs Offer $100,000 for a Hole-In-One

Golfers Search For These High Profile Events

Local golf clubs have a way of offering huge prizes during tournaments. Have you ever wondered how they are able to afford this? You realize that your local golf club can't afford to offer such huge cash prizes. So just how is it that they are able to offer this prize? The answer is simple, they purchase golf insurance. This idea is one that has really taken hold lately to attract golfers and increase golf course revenue.

The primary focus of people who assemble special golf events and tournaments go out of their way to provide fabulous gifts and prizes for their special outings. Obviously the most popular prize among those who sign up for these tournaments is the huge hole-in-one cash prize.

Offering $100,000 for a hole-in-one gets everyone interested and the word rapidly spreads through the local golf groups and communities. The owner of the golf course would likely never be in a position to hand over a check of this magnitude, so the tournament insurance covers the prize in the unlikely event that someone does in fact make a hole-in-one.

Purchasing the actual policy is not unlike obtaining any other type of insurance. A premium is set to cover the prize in the event that someone does in fact win. For a business owner, the rates are very affordable and the insurance companies which offer such premiums are finding this form of insurance to be rather profitable. There is no doubt that the odds are stacked in favor of the insurance company.

Hitting a hole-in-one for the average player is nearly impossible. Odds have been estimated in the realm of 1 in 13,000 for the amateur golfer and about 1 in 3000 for the professional. So it makes perfect sense that tournament organizers are easily able to offer such high cash prizes. Knowing the incredible excitement the prize will create at such an incredibly low risk, you can readily see that this form of insurance is and win-win situation for the golf course owner and the insurance company.

For a next to nothing insurance premium, the huge prize catches everyone's attention. Organizers also charge additional fees for those golfers wishing to sign on for the hole-in-one prize. This extra charge generally covers the cost of the premium so the prize ends up as a low to no cost tournament attraction.

These hole-in-one tournaments have become very profitable for the golf course owners. Golfers look around for local tournaments with high cash prizes. Somehow they expect these tournaments to be considered high profile and will enter the competition simply on the basis of the offered prizes.

If you plan to hold any kind of golfing tournament, I strongly suggest that you purchase hole-in-one golf insurance. This will bring fun, excitement and insure that your event will be highly successful for the players and organizers.
