A Collection of Resources for Legal Project Managers

The exponential growth of electronic data, and the increased responsibility to preserve and produce it, have led to discovery projects that are massive in scope. Such projects stretch the limits of traditional case/practice management approaches. But cases of any size can benefit by applying project management standards, such as those promulgated by the Project Management Institute.

Unfortunately, most law schools do not provide any management training whatsoever; not even basic law practice management, much less more focused project management.

The purpose of this lens is to bring together project management resources that I feel are helpful for lawyers and litigation support professionals who are interested in learning more about project management and applying it to their legal work.

Project Management, Case Mangement - Is There Any Difference?

I submit that Legal Project Management is distinct from Case Management. Further, I argue that the traditional case management approach is ill equipped for today's large, complex litigation matters. I believe this is more than mere semantics and that law firms can benefit greatly by the involvement of experienced, credentialed project management professionals.

Is legal project management the same thing as case management?

Obviously no, Though I am not a lawyer but I know this from my common sense that legal project management is not the same thing as case management. Surely Legal project management has a wider field than Case management.

Legal Project Management involves the application of project management standards to legal projects. It is distinctly different from traditional case management, which is ill equipped for today's large, complex litigation matters. There is no standard definition of case management and for most lawyers it simply means (hopefully) good scheduling and filing processes.
