I think Marijuana should be legalized

There are many myths surrounding Marijuana.

Notice I said myths?

The truth of the matter is, the U.S. government's own statistics show that over 75 percent of all Americans who use marijuana never use harder drugs. The gateway-drug theory is derived by using blatantly-flawed logic.

Marijuana is not physically addicting. Medical studies rank marijuana as less habit forming than caffeine. In fact, it is one of the least habit forming substances known.

So you tell me, what's so bad about it?

Therapeutic Uses Of Marijuana

Compared with cigarettes and alcohol, the health risks and societal costs associated with even chronic marijuana use are mild. We don't ban those items, yet we deny marijuana to seriously ill people who could get a lot of relief from it.

This is misguided and cruel.

Should Marijuana Be Legalized?

Do you think marijuana should be legalized, and then taxed like alcohol and cigarrettes?

Loading Fetching blurbs now... please stand by

Yes, that would be the best solution.

giltotherescue says:

Here in Boulder, Colorado it's practically legal (ticketed offense, lowest police priority) and I'm sure it's not a coincidence that the level of crime here is practically non-existent.

John H. says:

that marijuana should be legalized for anybody who is over the age of 15. I don't think that they should put taxes on pot, just sell the right amount of weed for a fair price.

Dylan Snyder says:

fuck yeah the shits not even as bad as alcohol

jake says:

legalize

Heather426 says:

of course it should be decriminalized for all purposes. The government has no business telling us what to put in our bodies. Especially for medical uses!

Photahsiamirabel says:

Of course it should be available for medical use.

2Eklectik says:

Absolutely. In addition to the medicinal benefits, consider the financial impact. It will need to be regulated to insure quality and safety. New businesses would open and employ more people, increasing tax revenues. Addtionally, the money currently spent on specialized crime ask forces could be put to better use.

a_willow says:

Medicaments are called 'drugs' and there is a good reason for this! Some of them make your head dizzier than marijuana ever could! So, yes, give a right to doctors to prescribe it as medicine like any oter drug that can help ease a pain!

0ctavias0fferings says:

As a sufferer of Arthritis who just can't take the heavy painkillers of conventional medicine, I say yes

No way, it should be illegal to grow, smoke or possess marijuana.

Legal Status Of Marijuana

Cannabis is in Schedule IV of the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, making it subject to special restrictions. Article 2 provides for the following, in reference to Schedule IV drugs:

:A Party shall, if in its opinion the prevailing conditions in its country render it the most appropriate means of protecting the public health and welfare, prohibit the production, manufacture, export and import of, trade in, possession or use of any such drug except for amounts which may be necessary for medical and scientific research only, including clinical trials therewith to be conducted under or subject to the direct supervision and control of the Party.

This provision, while apparently providing for the limitation of cannabis to research purposes only, also seems to allow some latitude for nations to make their own judgments. The official Commentary on the Single Convention indicates that Parties are expected to make that judgment in good faith.

You're brave to publish this so I applaud you...(sound of clapping) There are so many reasons why it should never have been illegal in the first place! A great book about it is The Emperor Wears No Clothes by Jack Herrer. 5*
