Starfy comes to the DS

The Legendary Starfy for DS is the 5th game in the series but the first to come out in the US. The game consists of playing Starfy- a cheery, if not loofy, starfish who happens to be the prince of Pufftop palace. While he may be a bit of a childish aircase, he does have a big heart and loads of courage.

The game consists of a platforming experience. You collect orbs for money (and health), attack monsters, and explore from one stage to another. If you've ever played old Donkey Kong and Sonic games, this might feel similar.

This lens is still being worked on.I need to add other characters and an overview of minigames

This is a worthwhile game for your DS collection

What makes this game great is the vast amount of levels available. There are 8 worlds available, plus another extra 3. Each world has around 4 game-related levels and about 3 "secret" levels. To unlock secret levels you usually have to finish some side mission you can find in the regular worlds. It's actually very easy to find them.

The game is simple to play you can swim, jump, attack, hover, and various other moves. It's great for people who aren't great at games because you can win it, and great for veterans because of how much there is to do. In case you forget what has happened, you can read your journal and even watched previous cutscenes. You can't save at any time, but there are many save points available. You can also leave a level and go back to the map by finding your friend Globerto, who is also available at many points.

As you progress Starfy will get stronger moves as well as monsters he can transform into (though not at will. There are times when you can transform, but that's decided by the game).

The music is alright. Nothing memorable, but while you're playing it does sound nice.

The art style is childish and cartoony. This isn't a bad thing at all. It's age appropriate and cute. Cutscenes consist of comic book-style animations. There is also an option to dress up Starfy with the clothing you've found throughout the world, or bought in the shop.

Overall it's a fun game with a lot of gameplay value and definitely worth picking up. You can even play with someone else (even if they don't have the game..they just need a DS), by using the extra character Starly.

Starfy on Wikipedia

The Legendary Starfy, known in Japan as , is a marine platform video game developed by TOSE and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo DS handheld video game console. It is the fifth game in the The Legendary Starfy video game series. On June 8, 2009, the game became the first in the series to be released outside of Japan.

Characters: Starfy

Starfy is the prince of Pufftop Castle who happens to be a starfish. He is accompanied by his friend Moe through his adventures.

Starfy can swim very well, and can spin in order to:
-attack monsters
-swim faster against the current
-jump out of the water very quickly

Starfy also has a sister Starly.

Bottom Screens

Bottom Screen: Treasure Sensor

There are various apps for the bottom (or touch screen). To be honest the touch controls in this game are rather nonexistent ( except for the game's menu).

Anyway, this application tells you if you've collected orbs because Moe's eyes turn into orbs (pointless since it shows you as you collect them). It can also tell you if there's a treasure in the room, because Moe's eyes show treasure. If the treasure icons start shaking, that means you're close! This is helpful because that way you already know which rooms have treasure before doing any exploration.

Bottom Screen: Gossip Mermaid

A useless app. It's supposed to give you hints if you're stuck, but it spends more time telling you about what you've already accomplished.

Bottom Screen: Shards & Monsters

This tells you how many shards you've collected (look I have three!), and which monsters Starfy can turn into. I suppose if you've been away from the game for a while, this might help jog your memory a bit.

Bottom Screen: Stats

This app shows stats about the game. Useless but a lot of people like to be able to see exactly how addicted they are to a game.

Other Features

You can dress up Starly

You can make Starfy wear items you've collected around the world, or bought from the shop. This is really just for fun as it won't change Starfy's in-game appearance.

Obviously the two pictures are the top and bottom screens of the DS while you're changing Starfy's clothes.

Like my design eh?
