Legless Lizard Legs

If you have ever found yourself wondering how many legs a legless lizard has then this is the page for you.

So Tell Me, How Many Legs Does a Legless Lizard Have?

To look at a legless lizard can be confusing. Without close inspection they are often mistaken for snakes. The legless lizard has no legs so this is an easily made error.

If you look closely at these lizards there are small stumps where legs used to be before evolution stepped in. These are not known to perform any function, the stumps are simply genetic remnants like the tal bone in humans.

Legless Lizard "walking"

My Russian Legless Lizard getting around. I promised someone months and months and months ago that I would put up a video of how he moved "tomorrow". It's been a really long day...? Sorry!!!! Anyway, here it is now. His name is Cinder. The discoloration along his back is burns, I rescued him from a tormented past. He's doing much better now, though. :) Enjoy!

Feeding A Legless Lizard

Scheltopusik getting fed

Linka the European Legless Lizard getting fed some of zoo meds can o' crickets. Feeding pre killed prey, be it insects or rodents keeps reptiles much healthier then feeding live prey. The risk of parasite transmission, as well as injury from the prey item is absent. Many species of reptiles with a little training, take pre-killed prey just as well as live prey.
