Get Ready for LEGO Batman: The Videogame!

First there was LEGO Star Wars, and then LEGO Indiana Jones and now, coming soon, the Caped Crusader joins the list of popular characters that have been turned into building sets and video games. Now Gotham City and all its famed characters have also been turned into little brick figures.

LEGO Batman Available Now

Gotham's Caped Crusader has turned to bricks. LEGO bricks, that is. The famed superhero and his sidekick Robin will be turned into animated LEGO figures in the new video game, LEGO Batman: The Videogame, which was released for all gaming platforms in September 2008.

The new game is similar to the previous LEGO games, including Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Unlike the previous games, however, which followed the movie storylines, this game will not be based on a specific comic book or movie. It will feature many well-known Batman enemies, such as Joker, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Penguin, Clayface, Riddler, and Mr. Freeze. Players will be able to play as heroes or villains in the 15 levels in the game.

The game is rated E-10.

Released in 2006, this game let players relive the fun of the "new" Star Wars movies, Episodes I - III (The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.) With the ability to play as one of several Jedis and allies, or as followers of the Dark Side, players made the game a huge hit, leading the way for more LEGO video games to follow.

The huge success of the first Star Wars game led to the inevitable release of the second game, which covered the first three movies (which is still somewhat confusing to those of us who remember the "last three" episodes as the "first three"). It was another hit.

LEGO Indiana Jones

The new game from the popular movies

Many of the young players who rushed to buy this new game probably don't remember the original Indiana Jones movies from the 1980s, but the release of the 2008 "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" was a good reason to put out a new LEGO game based on a popular movie.

The History of Batman

From Detective Comics to The Dark Knight

Before the Caped Crusader became a video game hero or star of the big screen, he was a comic book hero. Here's the history of his rise to popular icon.

Batman, originally referred to as "the Bat-Man" and still referred to at times as "the Batman", is a fictional character, a comic book superhero co-created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger (although only Kane receives official credit), appearing in publications by DC Comics. The character first appeared in Detective Comics #27 in May 1939.

He is additionally known as "the Caped Crusader", "the Dark Knight", "'the Worlds Greatest Detective", or simply "the Bat'"; in the original version of the story and the vast majority of subsequent retellings, Batmans secret identity is Bruce Wayne (named for the historical figures Robert the Bruce and "Mad" Anthony Wayne)Alter Egos And Alternate Earths, a billionaire playboy, industrialist, and philanthropist. Having witnessed the murder of his parents as a child, he swore revenge on crime, an oath tempered with the greater ideal of justice. Bruce trains himself both physically and intellectually and dons a bat-themed costume in order to fight crime. Batman operates in the fictional American Gotham City, assisted by various supporting characters including his main sidekick Robin, his butler Alfred Pennyworth, the police commissioner Jim...
