What Would We Do Without Kids Lego?

I have always loved LEGO bricks.

My own children enjoyed them and had big plastic tubs on wheels which were full of their LEGO pieces and they had lids so we could put them away after play.

Children can start building with these Lego bricks when they are in preschool and continue right up until they are young at heart adults.

Its so important that Children use their imagination and creativity when they play and I think LEGO sets encourage them to do that.

You can buy sets that amaze, from Harry Potter to Lego churches

I hope you enjoy the information on this page.

Harry Potter Lego

LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle

Amazon Price: $169.99 (as of 07/06/2008)

For the third addition to the LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle, we are treated to a true addition. The set matches up quite nicely with previous offerings from the LEGO line and offers plenty of new Hogwarts adventure to make it feel like a truly new location.

This set was purchased for my 8 year old daughter on her birthday. The delightful elements, colors and unique characters sold it for her wish list. As her father and a fan of all things LEGO, naturally we built it together. Together we spent 2 1/2 hours on the construction, and each portion of the set is contained in numbered bags that you do not open until you reach the step in the construction that requires those parts. That limits confusion; after all it is 943 pieces. When I was a kid the largest set I had was probably only half that size. A benefit to my daughter was the inclusion of no fewer than three female minifigures, two with LEGO hair! That's always a plus for her ;)

Though it is large and can take some time to build it is very educational. Structures and supports are all well used in this set. The step by step build process meant that at certain points in the process my daughter could have a completed tower, Herbology Classroom or another portion of the set already complete for a few moments of diversion. Older kids, and adults will likely have no trouble at all with the time it takes. Younger kids naturally are going to need a little help or they might find it overwhelming.

A great LEGO set, full of exploration, character and fun. Definitely a family moment. You'll be eager to play with your child with this one. Or just get one for yourself. It's great.

LEGOLAND World Record LEGO Tower

LEGOLAND World Record LEGO Tower

Over the Mayday bank holiday, thousands of children descended on LEGOLAND Windsor to help break the record for the world's tallest LEGO tower, which stands at almost 100ft tall and used around half a million LEGO bricks. The record breaking structure was built to celebrate the opening of the brand new Land of the Vikings at the park and also to mark the 50th anniversary of LEGO.

Whats Happening With Lego Today?

Since it began producing plastic bricks, the Lego Group has released thousands of play sets themed around a variety of topics. Examples include, but are not limited to, space, robots, pirates, vikings, medieval castles, dinosaurs, holiday locations, the wild west, the Arctic, airports, miners, Star Wars, SpongeBob SquarePants, Harry Potter and Exo-Force.

New elements are often released along with new sets. There are also Lego sets designed to appeal to young girls such as the Clikits line which consists of small interlocking parts that are meant to encourage creativity and arts and crafts, much like regular Lego bricks. Clikit pieces can interlock with regular Lego bricks as decorative elements.

The Lego range has expanded to encompass accessory motors, gears, lights, sensors, and cameras designed to be used with Lego components.

There are even special bricks, like the Lego NXT that can be programmed with a PC or a Mac to perform very complicated and useful tasks. These programmable bricks are sold under the name Lego Mindstorms.

In 2006 a new Lego Mindstorms kit called Mindstorms NXT was released. It is more advanced than the RCX, has a bigger screen than the RCX, and has a new array of sensors. They include touch, sound, light, and a new ultrasonic sensor technology.

There is also a Bluetooth compatible hookup that can send and receive messages from one's cellphone and other Bluetooth compatible devices.

The RCX was only compatible with Windows, but NXT is compatible with both Windows and Mac OS.

Wonderful Lego Ships

LEGO DUPLO Big Pirate Ship (7880)

Amazon Price: $67.68 (as of 07/06/2008)

This was purchased as a Christmas present for my 4 year old girl. Huge wow factor right out of the box! This toy is impressive. Huge, very well made, really beautiful, full of detail, such as a working canon, funny characters, plank, fire, etc. Being a Duplo product, there a lots of possible configurations, for tons of fun and hours of imaginative play. The toy is easy to put together, not as intimidating as the Lego toys for older kids (and won't result in hundreds of pieces throughout the house). Pieces snap together easily. Her 6 year old brother enjoys it just as much. They've also brought it in the water (bathtub) although the ship fills quickly with water from the wheelwells and sinks right away. The kids now only take some of the accessories in the bath with them. Highly recommended.

Lego Robots Competitions And More!!!

There are several robotics competitions which use Lego bricks and the RCX.

The earliest, and likely the largest, is Botball, a national U.S. middle- and high-school competition stemming from the MIT 6.270 Lego robotics tournament.

A related competition is FIRST Lego League for elementary and middle schools. The international RoboCup Junior soccer competition involves extensive use of Lego Mindstorms equipment which is often pushed to its extreme limits.

Bionicle is a line of toys by the Lego Group that is marketed towards those in the 7-16-year-old age range.

The line was launched in January 2001 in Europe and June/July 2001 in the United States. The Bionicle idea originated from the earlier toy lines Slizers (also known as Throwbots) and Roboriders.

Both of these lines had similar throwing disks and characters based on classical elements. The sets in the Bionicle line have increased in size and flexibility through the years.

Lego Group operates four Legoland amusement parks, three in Europe and one in California.

On July 13, 2005, the control of 70% of the Legoland parks was sold for $460 million to the Blackstone Group of New York while the remaining 30% is still held by the Lego Group.

There are also several Lego Brand retail stores, including at Downtown Disney in both the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts and in the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota.

As of year end 2005, there are 25 Lego Brand Retail stores in the USA, a number of stores in Europe, and a franchised Lego store in Abu Dhabi.

We're still big lego fans here too. My favorite part is stepping on them in the middle of the night while they are hiding in the carpet.
