No, I don`t think they are trying to split the girls from the boys and i certainly don`t think Lego are trying to separate any of their fans from their favorite Lego Set currently in existence. In my opinion I think that Lego just want to give girls a bigger variety within the building toy. Girls who want all the princess stuff as well as girls who want to enact their dreams of owning a cafe or being a vet. With Lego Friends 2012 your little girls can truly say "This Is My Lego"

Personally I think it`s a bold move from the Lego Group to release gender specific sets which has surely annoyed a lot of folks. However, I do not think it`s their intention to split boys & girls and separate girls from ANY LEGO theme or set in any waI, nor do I think they are saying that regular Lego is just for boys. In my opinion, i simply believe that The Lego Group is trying to make Lego more appealing to the group of girls who don't like the current Lego themes and sets! It's not a bad thing to take a break from the guns, police stations, fire trucks and spaceships.

    I always thought standard Lego blocks were all we needed. I never had sets when I was a kid. I know they are wildly popular though, so I don't have a problem with these sets. I probably would just buy my daughter regular Legos though.

    I love Lego, but I must admit the "girl lego" things slightly annoy me. My daughter loves building stuff with Lego, and doesn't need it to be "pinkified" to do so. Definitely with the other commenter on this one. Helena likes building spaceships "super aeroplanes" (so cute pronounced by an enthusiastic 2 year old). Most of them take a bit of imagination to see what she is trying at the moment, but the inspiration is there.

    I have problems with gender-specific toys. Not because it's sexist, but because it teaches kids early on that there are certain avenues in life that they are "meant" to take, that some things are "not for them" - that's needlessly limiting to a child's imagination and dreams of the future, in my opinion. Shame for LEGO, to go that route... One of the things I've always loved most about LEGO was that it's equally suitable for both males and females of all ages.
