Lego Star Wars X-Wing Fighter (4502) Review

What is it with the Lego Star Wars X-Wing Fighter (4502) that makes folks so excited about it?

  • Is it the sheer exhilaration of letting your imagination run wild as you see yourself inside that X-Wing Fighter, blasting the enemy into oblivion with your laser cannons and proton torpedo launchers?

  • Is it the excitement of actually building this wonderful model spacecraft from the well-known Star Wars movies and watching it taking shape?

  • Is it the thrill of playing with this wonderful model spaceship and the accessories after you've built it?

  • Is it the satisfaction of completing the model from its core building blocks and then displaying it in your room or house for all your friends and visitors to see?

  • Is it because Lego sets are very educational and that you cannot go wrong with the Star Wars series because they are valuable collectibles?

  • Let's take a look...

"As far as overall appeal, piece count, size enhancement, and added bonuses, the 4502 X-Wing Fighter is, by far, the greatest re-release in the Star Wars Lego line..." ~ wellwellwell, Amazon reviewer

Why should I get the Lego Star Wars X-Wing Fighter?

Lego Star Wars X-Wing FighterIf you are a fan of the whole Star Wars saga or you are a sci-fi enthusiast, the model will definitively have some meaning for you. Should you want to undertake a new activity relating to your interest, then you have to try this. The excitement of starting and completing such a project can be very satisfying.

The X-Wing Fighter is perhaps the most recognizable piece of equipment from the whole Star Wars saga as these fictional starfighters were used in the original Star Wars trilogy as well as the Star Wars Expanded Universe. It is furthermore the ship that Luke Skywalker piloted to Dagobah to learn the secrets of the Force from Yoda.

And, yes, I believe Lego sets are very educational and you cannot go wrong with the Star Wars series because they are valuable collectibles.

Can I buy it as a gift for someone?

Yes, by all means you can buy the Lego Star Wars X-Wing Fighter (4502) as a gift for someone. In fact, it will make a perfect Christmas or birthday gift for a boy (or a girl, or even a grown up man who is still a boy at heart).

Just note that the recommended age group is from 8 to 12 years, although I believe it should be from 8 to 80 years! Many customers are actually adults who bought the model for themselves just for the fun of it, to build up their collection of Star Wars models, to display the completed model, and even to, uhm, actually play with it!

The model consists of 563 pieces and therefore it is not a simple model to build, however some customers have reported that they bought it for six-year-old kids and these kids actually managed to build the model and love playing with it.

Also note that there is a choking hazard for small children - according to the manufacturer, the model should be used only by children of ages 3 years and up.

What is the quality like?

The individual building blocks have the same excellent and well-known quality delivered by Lego throughout a number of decades. Most customers have reported the completed aircraft model to be quite sturdy, with a few customers reporting that a few small parts may tend to fall off during very rough playing.

What can the model do?

As any Star Wars aficionado should know, an X-Wing Fighter should be able to operate in one of two flight modes: one in which the wings are pressed flat against each other and another when they are opened into the attack position, affording the wingtip lasers a larger fire area, and hence the well-known X-wing configuration is formed.

Well, this model does not lack this capability: by simply turning a knob the four wings can be expanded or flattened all at once.

The starfighter also sports a storage compartment on the bottom for storing lightsabers. Furthermore, you can open Yoda's hut reveal a secret compartment to Yoda's lightsaber.

This is a must-have toy. If you don't have one, you better get one now!! No Star Wars Lego collection is complete without this exciting new set! ~ A Kid's Review, Amazon

What Are Others Saying?

This Lego Star Wars X-Wing Fighter model has received rave reviews from most consumers on the Internet with an average of around 4.5 out of 5 from reviewers on Amazon.

Here are some of the comments to date:

"In my opinion this is the best Lego set made."

"All in all, I couldn't recommend a Star Wars Lego set more than this one. The price is right when you consider you're getting a much better, much bigger X-Wing and Yoda's hut - something that would have been sadly missed had it not appeared somewhere. Get this set before it zooms past you."

"Now that's what I'm talking about! This X-Wing, the second of (so far) three that Lego has produced in mini-figure scale, is by far the superior one."

"Overall, this toy is pretty durable when being played with and it makes an excellent display piece. I would recommend this toy to anyone who is a fan of Lego or Star Wars."

"This is my fourth Lego Star Wars set, and I must say, I enjoyed it very much. Not only was it fascinating to piece together, but I even had fun playing with it after it was assembled."

Any Complaints?

I found very few complaints for this Lego Star Wars X-Wing Fighter model on consumer sites around the web.

A few customers reported that a few small parts may tend to fall off during very rough playing, but this is to be expected, since the model is not glued together. Luckily, it can be fixed very easily, and this is the beauty of models consisting of building blocks - just pick up the part or block that fell off, and stick it on again.
