Lego Building Blocks
A Little History... How Lego Began
Lego was discovered by a carpenter named Ole Kirk Christensen in Billin, Denmark. The word 'lego' is actually an abbreviation for two danish words that mean 'play well'. Through his work as a carpenter hemade mini versions of tools and products, this is what inspired him to begin creating toys. In 1932 Ole Kirk Christensen began making wooden pull toys, piggy banks and cars and trucks. Along with making furniture he introduced yoyo's to the market. His son joined him in his business and soon after the company coined the name 'Lego'. Eventually they began working with plastic and producing colorful plastic toys. Interlocking blocks became a success. Bricks that locked together. They could be pushed together and easily pulled apart. In 1953 they were named Lego Bricks.

- I've always loved playing with my Duplo and Lego blocks. I've still got most of the original sets I had as a kid, plus I got into the Star Wars Lego sets when they were released. A great idea for a lens, good job!

- I didn't know Lego started in Denmark and from the same gentleman that created the Yo-Yo. He certainly found his calling as a toy maker! We didn't have Legos when I was very young, but I got a set when I was a tween and loved it. Now my daughter loves them. Seems it's the simplest toys that keep interest the longest.
