Hi, i'm a New Yorker who moved here 11 years ago. Leiden is my home now, I live here with my wife and two children. Culture Shock!! Even after 11 years!! I prefer the big city, but Holland is a great place to raise our kids, who are the most important people in our lives. To be honest, I really do love living in Leiden. In a way, I did come here from New Amsterdam!!!!(New york's original name before the trade with England) Maybe I just came home!

Thanks, Katinka, I've been wondering where you live. Thanks for introducing me to Groningen! I suppose we should all do pages like this!

    Blessed By Brenda

Your grandmother's house is charming, and the habit of inscribing poetry on the building walls is one I wish many more places would adopt! How beautiful.

I was in Leiden about 12 years ago and I fell in love with the city. It's really beautiful and so interesting. I love the way the river runs through the city. - Claire

What a cool lens! I lived in Leiden for a while and loved that little city. You should have mentioned the nice Hoofjas, those little courtyards where there were apartments built for widows many years ago. I believe that Leiden has the most of them of all cities in The Netherlands.

Also, did you know that Leidseplein, the biggest square in Amsterdam is named for Leiden? The reason is that there is (or used to be?) a canal that stretched from there to Leiden.

Also nearby Keukenhof and the botanical gardens of Leiden are wondeful tourist attractions.

Great work on a wondeful 5* Lens!!

Another great NL lens! I've lived in Leiden for the past 6 years. You should include some photos of the Oct. 3 festival and what about the great museums here?!?

Amsterdam was my first European city experience. The Netherlands are beautiful. Welcome to All Things Travel. Wonderful lens!

What a beautiful city. The canal-side cafes would be the places I would have the hardest time resisting. :)

I am so glad you've made this lens about the very lovely Leiden. I became acquainted with the city when one of my friends attended its university, which, in addition to being one of the oldest universities in the world, is considered one of the best!
