Lemax Christmas Village Collection

It's Always Christmas In My Lemax Village

Everybody loves a Christmas Village. There's something about them that seems to capture the wide eyed, child-like innocence of the holiday season. In fact even the most miserable, grumpiest Christmas Grinch has to fight giving a little smile when he sees the twinkling lights and hears the Christmas carols floating over the frozen skating pond.
That's right a Christmas Village is a wonderful magical place where our Christmas dreams and wishes always come true.

The 'Nutcracker Suite' is part of Lemax's Sights and Sounds Collection and is beautifully crafted from porcelain and polyresin. Featuring ballerinas and dancers who revolve around the stage and christmas tree to the tune of Tchaikovsky's 'The Nutcracker Suite'. It's a wonderfull addition to anybody's Christmas Village collection.

How Christmas Villages Started

Originally deriving from nativity scenes, creating a Christmas village used to be a family orientated activity. Over the year families would make small cardboard houses from packaging and chocolate boxes and then display them in village scenes at Christmas. In fact the term 'putze' (which is often used to describe a Christmas village or house) comes from the German word for 'put together' or 'set up'.

However by the early 1920's with the age of mass production, commercially produced 'putzes' with lighting became available from Japan. And so the humble and lovingly craftd home made 'putze' became a thing of the past, as illuminated villages went from strength to strength.

Musical Christmas Tree

Every Christmas Village needs a 'Christmas Tree' and this tree is one of the best I've ever seen. It's nearly fourteen inches high, features multi-colored fibre optic lights, revolves and plays the tune of 'O Christmas Tree'. And if that isn't enough, on top of the tree there's a glowing angel.
Mains or battery powered, there's also an on/off switch, a volume control and thoughtfully some replacement LED bulbs

Mix and Match

Santa's Wonderland and Caddington Village

Unless you're exceptionally lucky and you can afford to buy an entire Christmas Village in one delightful spending spree, (Ah to win the lottery), you'll probably find your village will slowly grow over the years. That's why a large number of villages are made out of older pieces and discontinued collections, as their owners have added a house here and a skating pond there.
Lemax currently have two main Christmas collections to choose from, 'Santa's Wonderland' and 'Caddington Village'. 'Santa's Wonderland' deals with Santa and his elves, while 'Caddington Village' is more an idealized Victorian 19th Century view of Christmas.
Purists of course will probably just want to specialize in a single collection, but from a personal point of view, Ithink mixing and matching a couple of elves watching Victorians skating on a frozen lake adds to the overall Christmas flavor of the scene

Enjoyed your history on the Lemax Village Collections. There are so many festive ornament pieces to collect or to give to start a collection. I am quite fond of the Victorian pieces. Happy Holidays!
