Since being remade for Sony PSP, Lemmings has become more addictive than ever.
Lemmings For Sony PSP Review: Oh No More Lemmings! Lemmings is a video game originally made popular by Psygnosis for the Amiga system. This game has been popular for many years, I was playing it on my computer back in the 1990's.
The popularity of the game has kept steady and actually increased over the years. Those of us that have been playing it for several years have been longing for an updated version made for a popular game system and those that are saying Lemmings what? have been missing a pleasant and addictive experience. The new version for Sony PSP is a really cool play. It is much easier to play than the PC versions and has some cool additions like being able to change lemmings tools and scan across the screen while the screen is paused. This makes it much easier to keep track of all that is going on because sometimes there is more going on than you can see in front of you. You can also create your own custom levels, upload them to the internet via the built in PSP wireless internet connection, and other people can play your levels and leave feedback for you, very cool.
The Lemmings PSP game concept is simple, keep your lemmings alive. That's it, just don't let them die. Sound fun? Ok, it's a little more complicated than that, you have a certain number of lemmings (little mindless creatures that will walk off the edge of a cliff if you let them)and you must "tell" them what to do to survive. There are several types of lemmings, climbers, diggers, bombers, builders, floaters, etc. and you have to make the dumb little guys do what is necessary to get from the start of the maze to the finish avoiding all the pitfalls and hazards. You will need to bash through walls, dig holes, climb walls, blow up stuff (including the lemmings sometimes) and use blockers to keep the majority of your lemmings out of harms way while the others are doing the dirty work.
The first few Lemmings levels seem really easy, this is because the game is designed to teach you how to play it. The first several levels are designed to make you use one tool at a time to save the lemmings then combine them gradually until you are familiar with all the tools and lemming rescuing techniques. After you get past the "teaching" levels it gets tricky really fast. You can play the PSP version in 3 modes; easy, tricky, and difficult. Even in easy mode it will take you a bit to get through the first 30 or so levels. There are 150 levels of game play and since you can create your own custom levels that makes it virtually unlimited.
Here are some of the differences between the old Amiga Lemmings version and the new Lemmings for Sony PSP. The music is upgraded, it is still pretty much the same tunes but it is updated for modern sound systems, it is no longer the plunky midi music. The video has been upgraded, there is much more detail and resolution than the old versions, this is truly made for todays modern gaming consoles. There are new features of the game such as the user created custom levels, screen pausing, multiple user profiles, online level play, and more.
This is one cool game, people who like solving puzzles and doing logic games, that normally don't care too much for video games will love Lemmings for PSP.
