Get on the Tube...

Millions of YouTube videos are watched everyday. It's the best video source on the internet and is growing everyday.

So many people come to YouTube for help and entertainment so why not get your Squidoo lenses on there.

Making a video is simple if you know how. In this lens I will show you how to make a easy YouTube video which you can use to promote your lenses.

What to expect...

Below shows two examples of my YouTube videos one of which I have made to promote my advertising lens.

The first video is just a simple video that just explains a bit on what my lens is about and also shows what it looks like. This specific video is aimed at people who use Squidoo but obviously your lenses can be to do with anything you want.

Whether you a wizz kid when it comes to the internet or whether you have no idea what YouTube let alone how to get a video on there don't worry because this method is not only simple it's FREE!!!!

What you'll need...

To be honest you don't need much at all:

  • A YouTube account

  • CamStudio: To record on-screen action (it's free).

  • A microphone: To record your voice explaining what your lens is about.

  • A lens to promote.

And that's it. The only thing that might cost is a microphone but most cameras have them built in or come with them these days and laptops normally have them built in. CamStudio is a completely free piece of software that is great for recording decent looking on-screen movement. It also can record sound at the same time unlike other free versions of this kind of software.

Getting a YouTube account

YouTube accounts are free and very simple to set up. All you do is:

1. Go to www.youtube.com

2. Go to the top right hand corner and press "Sign up"

3. Fill in the form and click "Create my account"

It's that simple. You'll now be able to login and get straight to work. To upload videos just click on the yellow "Upload" button. It's all pretty self explanatory.

Please add me as a friend or subscribe to me here!!!

Thank you!!!

CamStudio

"CamStudio is able to record all screen and audio activity on your computer and create industry-standard AVI video files and using its built-in SWF Producer can turn those AVIs into lean, mean, bandwidth-friendly Streaming Flash videos (SWFs) "

Don't understand? It's literally a free on-screen action recorded that saves the file in a format that can easily be shared over the internet.

Now the software is completely free, this is not for a demo version the Full version is free. This is because the software is released under the General Public License (GPL).

To download the software click here.

I would also recommend downloading and installing the Codec for CamStudio. A codec stands for coder/decoder which is a device or software that encodes and decodes digital information. The camstudio codec will help the recorded file be a small size but also remain a good quality. You can download it here.

Best video settings for CamStudio

Above is a screenshot of my settings which I personally think are the best. With these settings the video is of good quality and is also quite a small size.

To get to these settings and edit them for the best:

1. Open up CamStudio

2. Go to "Options" and select "Video Options"

3. You will then see what the screenshot shows. Make sure that the "Compressor" (Codec) is selected so that it uses CamStudio's own which hopefully you downloaded too.

4. Type the numbers in shown in the screenshot into the right sections

5. Press "Configure" and set it so "LZO" is selected and also it is on "Level 8". You'll see what I mean when you click on it.

That's it for video.

Best audio settings for CamStudio

Above is a screenshot of the audio settings I use for my microphone.

To get to the settings and edit them:

1. Open up CamStudio

2. Go to "Options" and select "Audio Options" and then "Audio Options for Microphone"

3. Edit to what is shown in the screenshot

4. Also go to "Options" and select "Audio Options" and then "Audio and Video Synchronization"

5. Make sure that "Do not shift the audio and video streams" is selected.

Now your ready to record. If you don't have a microphone you can still record on-screen action but you just won't be able to record your voice at the same time.

The Microphone

Now if you want to talk over your video like I have then you'll need a microphone. Chances are you have already got one but below are some you can buy off of Amazon. They're relatively cheap these days.

CamStudio should altermatically find your microphone but if not go to "Options" >>> "Audio Options" >>>"Audio Options for Microphone" and then change the "Audio Capture Device".

To turn on microphone go to "Options" and then click on "Record Audio from Microphone" this will make a little tick appear next to it.

You're now ready to start recording your video!!!!

Recording your video

So now everything is set up you are ready to record your video!!!!

To choose exactly what part of the screen you want to record click on "Region"

Region allows you to draw out a specific area you want to record.

Fixed Region allows you to manually type in a area of the screen.

Window is what I use. It allows you to click on a specific window that I want to record, in this case my web browser screen.

Full screen allows you to record the whole screen.

The bigger area that you decide to record the bigger the file size will be. The amount of movement also effects file size so be careful. You don't want your video to be too big as YouTube will not let you upload it.

Now all you need to do is press the big red button to record. It's best to plan out what you're going to say before you record. Once you've finished recording click on the square stop button.

Other Features

There are tons of other features such as:

  • Changing the cursor

  • Cursor highlighting

  • Setting keyboard shortcuts

  • Adding annotations on screen

It's best if you just play around with these yourself. Just keep an eye on the file size. The more you do the bigger your video file will get.
