Yes. Tags are very critical in giving your lens a good rank in search engines. I noticed this when I was fine-tuning my lens about the singer Susanna Hoffs. Searching Google for the words susanna hoffs showed my lens at the rank 43 in search results, while by searching for suzanna hoffs my lens ranked high at 28.

Though, the singer's name is Susanna Hoffs, some will search for Suzanna with 'Z' and those are part of the visitors you want to attract. If I had not included 'Suzanna' among my Tags I would have lost all the visitors who spelled the name wrongly or who thought the name is written this way.

Always, keep in mind such variations in tags, it will surely give your lens other dimensions in search results.

I built this lens sometime ago in an attempt to shed some light on some of the lenses available on Squidoo, do a voluntary evaluation of its rank and give some ideas of how to enhance its rank.

I have developed certain criteria for the assessment process, which contain Content (Consistency, Richness, Attractiveness, Interactivity), Squidoo search, Google search and Yahoo search.

As long as the content is generous, and relevant to the topic and tags the value of the web page (or lens) will tend to be higher as a source of information and will rank higher on search engines.
