Optimised Search for Squidoo
Searching for Squidoo lenses on a search engine can be a real pain sometimes, as the results are very often filled with non-content pages like tags. Finding the best groups for your lens to join can also be very tricky.
Here I provide two custom searches (by Google) that are optimised to only return the searches that you want to see. I have also included some tips on how to attract more traffic to your lens from search engines.
Getting Search Traffic to Your Lens
If you are a lensmaster here at Squidoo, you'll probably be keen for your own lenses to appear in the Google search results too. Here is a brief checklist of what you need to do:
- Make sure your key phrase is in your title. Keep it to the point (between 4 and 8 words), and directly relevant to your content. A good title on your Introduction can also help.
- Your Primary Tag is important. It should not be the same as your title, and should be 2 or 3 words. Pick the key phrase that is most descriptive of your lens.
- Choose a good set of tags, like about 20 (the maximum is 40). All of them should be related to your lens, and based on phrases that you think people might search for.
- Lensroll your lens to other lenses that are about the same topic, both your own and other peoples.
- Join Groups - specifically ones that your lens is related to.
- Get external links to your lenses from other websites. Do this by posting on forums (make good use of your signature), submitting to directories, and swapping links with other webmasters.
- Remember: Relevance is Key - keep your lens focused!
