What Is a Lensblography?

A Blog About Squidoo Lenses

All right, fellow Squidoo lensmasters, I'm hereby coining a new term -- Lensblography! A lensblography is a blog about your Squidoo lenses. In other words, it's a lensography done as a blog.

Many people already have lensblographies, but we didn't have a word for them. If you have a lensblography, you can add a link to it here! If you don't have one, this lens tells you how to start one and shows you some examples.

By the way: the original term "lensography" was first coined by thefluffanutta, creator of the remarkably useful SquidUtils Tools for Lensmasters.

Wait, What's a Lensography?

Why Make a Lensblography?

Why Not Just Create a Lensography on Squidoo?

Many lensmasters have created Squidoo lensographies. But as we create more and more lenses, lensographies can get pretty long. Some lensmasters have multiple lensographies, each one covering their lenses on a particular topic or theme.

A blog about your lenses is a great way to help people see ALL your lenses, or browse them by category or search them. Fans may discover golden oldies they might not find otherwise.

Reviewing old lenses helps remind you of lenses you may have neglected for too long -- lenses that need updating!

Most importantly, backlinks from a blog to your Squidoo lenses are an easy form of Squidoo SEO.

How to Make a Lensblography

Or, How to Start a Squidoo Blog

First, you'll need a blog. Free blogging platforms include Blogger, Blogspot and Livejournal. They give limited functionality, but they've got support, plus they're free.

In my opinion, the better option is to have your own blog. To do that, you'll need to do three things.

Web hosting by ICDSoft1. Get an account on a webhosting service. There are tons of good options. I've used ICDSoft since 2003 (and recommended it to my Mom, who has had no complaints).

2. Register a domain name. Most web hosting services will do that for you for a small additional fee. ICDSoft charges $5 a year. Squidoo quickly pays for that!

3. Install blogging software on your site. Your web hosting service may provide built-in blogging software, but I highly recommend installing Wordpress. It's free, easy to use and talks you through set-up. You can get plug-ins to screen out spammers, and change the look of your blog with attractive themes. (If anyone out there is using Wordpress on ICDSoft, see this quick installation guide).

I wanted to do this, but I thought it was too ..... too something. Now, I feel like I've been given permission. Thanks. This is the last of several great lenses I've seen of yours. If you don't mind, I'll make you one of my models -- models of possibility, that is. Thanks, again. Off to create a lensblography.
