A View of The Outside World

Hi There!! My name is Jim and welcome to my "lens eye view". Once I got my sony point and shoot (DSC-H1), the world is not safe from my photographic eye anymore. I believe beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and I am the beholder. If I take one photo very likely I will take a hundred photos of a flower, bug, bird, or even you. I have since upgraded my camera to a Sony Alpha 100 and my lens of choice is a Tamron 18mm to 200mm telephoto zoom. So you have been warned, that flower, that butterfly, that bug, or even you just may appear in my view finder.

The photo I am using here in the into is a Arkansas sunrise from my back porch.

Photography Philosphy

Since Christmas 2005 I have been having fun in the world of digital photography. That is when my wife gave me my first digital point and shoot camera, a Sony DSC-H1. Of the 15 or 20 thousand photos sitting on my hard drive right now, about half of those were taken with this camera. I have since acquired a Sony Alpha 100 DSLR. I still use the DSC-H1 as a backup as well as utilizing it's movie mode from time to time.

My favorite subjects to photograph are flowers, butterflies, deer, my pets, or anything else that captures my eye when I have a camera in my hand. I will very likely shoot a 100 photos of a flower with the intent to get 3 or 4 really outstanding photographs and ditch the rest. That is what digital photography allows us to do.

When someone looks at one of my photographs and all they can say is "wow" then I will know I have achieved my goal of taking the "money shot". Thus far, I am still pushing the shutter button looking for the "money shot".

If you take a peek at my photos on flickr, let me say in advance, thank you. I know your time is valuable and I would be honored if you take a look. If you leave a comment, even better.

Eastern Tiger Swallowtail

Papilio glaucus glaucus

The Easter Tiger Swallowtail butterfly as seen in my flower garden in the summer of 2007 on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The day I took these photos I followed two or 3 Easter Tiger's from flower to flower as they looked for flower nectar.

Gulf Fritillary

Agrulis vanillae

The Gulf Fritillary is a beautiful brushfoot butterfly. With a wingspan of u to 3 inches and it's unique color it is very easy to see and identify. This butterfly begins to appear in the late spring and can be seen through late fall.
