How this works is pretty simple. Google AdSense is a way to generate revenue by placing ads on a page that are (hopefully) relevent to the content. Each time a visitor clicks on one of the ads, you get money in your AdSense account. The amount varies greatly depending on the keywords in the content. Some clicks will only pay a few cents, while others will pay several dollars.
On each of your blog pages, a set of AdSense ads will be displayed. 50% of the time the ads will be using your AdSense ID, while the other 50% will be Blogger Party's or split between us and the person who referred you.
