Squidoo Community Self-Help Central
It's a tall order, by all means. I think we can do it.I think it'll be a fun and interesting experiment.
We Squidoo lensmasters help and support many charitable causes outside of our community. I think we can show the world that we know how to take care of our own - when emergencies arise.

The Inspiration For This Lens Came From The SquidU Forum...
Our beloved lensmaster Flowergardener wrote about her misfortune
Deb, aka The Flowergardener reported on the horrific weather conditions in her area - winter ice storms and spring floods - leaving her with significant house and property damages. FEMA stepped in and promised some coverage - good. But we all know how "efficiently" government agencies work - it might take a long time before any real help comes through. (Matter of fact - while I'm writing this we're getting the news that FEMA has actually reacted quickly and deposited a little over one thousand bucks into Deb's account. That money will be gone fast!)Deb has been a treasured member of our Squidoo community for a long time. She has helped thousands of aspiring lensmasters with encouragement and advice. Her personal display of humility and great faith has touched our hearts and given us hope for our own darker moments in life. Wasn't it now a good time and opportunity to give back something to our dear friend?
A quick first idea showed up: let's visit her lenses and rate them into a better lensrank. Careful! We were reminded not to engage in a "rating parade"! Absolutely not, we said - we will rate Deb's lenses only according to our judgment. So far, so good.
Meanwhile, the forum thread burst in its seams! Many lensmasters posted about their willingness to support Deb as much as possible. Poddys mentioned the "P" word - PayPal account! EelKat reported on her own terrible experiences with flood damages and pledged her support for Deb. A huge wave of "squidlove" swept over the forum. Constant updates kept "Action Deb" on top of the forum posts for hours and hours.
The Squidoo community showed its true face, or better - its big heart.
Lensmasters Helping Lensmasters - In Spontaneous Consensus!
Our community picks a "Squidlove" candidate through spontaneous outbursts of collective compassion.
Potential candidates are found when lensmasters in serious distress share their stories in the SquidU forum.
"Squidlove" is NOT a "rating parade"! We meet the candidates through their lenses and use our judgment for ratings, as always.

- What an amzing job you do Chef. Unfortunately, I am unable at this very moment in time to help anyone financially for I am in need of funds myself in order to just keep my small business alive and keep a few people employed. I have sacrificed a great deal in order to maintain the workers I do have because I just don't have the heart to lay anyone off if I can figure out a way around it. What I have done to help my fellow lensmasters though is started a Squidoo Cancer Forum. A lensmaster contacted me a couple weeks ago and told me she had just been diagnosed with breast cancer, but didn't want to go public yet. She had read my CANCER IS A PUNK lens. Then a couple of days later, Sandra Davison (Blue22d) informed me her husband recently had surgery and started chemo for lung cancer. I'm hoping to be able to give people a place where they can ask questions and perhaps receive some answers or some advice. This is the best I can do at the moment. Hopefully I can do more in the future.

- What a wonderful lens! Each lens of yours I read amazes me. Your kind heart does shine through each one but this one is my favorite.
Thank you for writing about Deb. I hadn't heard how difficult it got for her during the hurricane. I'm off to favor and spread some stars her way but in the meantime I'm leaving some for you as well as a virtual cup of tea from The Teapot Dragon.
