LENSMASTER OF THE DAY Volume 2

When I was a fresh Squid I was so hesitant in treading the waters that it took me a couple of month to create my second lens. A_Willow was one of the lensmasters that really helped me move my tentacles. Her FRESH SQUID HEADQUARTERS is responsble for giving a lot of Squidoo newbies a reason to continue lens crafting. That alone puts her above other lensmasters. Notice that snapshot on the right, that group page is responsible for jumpstarting hundreds of lenses to stardom. Would you believe that because that some newbies enrolled in that groupd hhave achieved the most coveted Lens Of the Day award.

In my stint with Squidoo, I have but made 20 plus lenses. Sometimes I stopped for months because of other projects. It was A_willow that emails me I fall to stand up and continue. That's what I call encouragement.

Here is one of her emails to me:

Hi Classified,

Hey, you're famous!

Someone was just checking out your Squidoo lens "The MoyMoy Palaboy Show" and wrote you the following note...

"Are you lost again? Where have you been?" -- a_willow <xxxxxxxx@yahoo.com>

Now let us see her lenses. I have provided a couple of snapshots of her best performing lens. I had them observed by a three officemates to find exceptional things that make it standout from the crowd. What the found out was a technique that makes it simple but very effective. They pointed out that ther lenses were add laden and too long. But A_willow has managed to make it have that homey personal touch feeling. And because of that reader are most likely to scan and read the entire lens no matter how long. No wonder it made Lens Of The Day.

The technique here is the use of eye catching headlines. The would be the green strips that separate sections and the yellow popsicles sticks that also separate sections. What makes this so effective? Now A_willows lenses are very long (when I downloaded the image at maximum compresion... it took 3 minutes and 13 MB of space, I am using a quad core pc with 4 gb of memory). Put yourself in the readers shoes... would you really bother to read the entire lens? Not all will, believe me... but Providing the headlines that pop out of the page provides the reader quick access to relevant information when scanning. When scrolling down... you no longer need to read the entire lens... you just look for topics that interest you... stop there and start reading.

And of course there is also A_willow's unique way of placing adds. It is as if the adds are part of the lens. They are not bunched up together like other lensmasters do. I know because I'm guilty of this.

Golden nuggets learned from A_willow:

1. The passion to help others goes two ways. You are helped by those you help.
2. Use headlines to catch the readers attention.
3. Place adds so that they meld with your content

Her passion in helping others succeed without compromising her own Squidoo career definitely makes her one of the best Lensmaster Of the Day.
