    Hi Eric Barthlays,
It is a pleasure to "meet" you. I have read several of your lens's.
In July, I am going to London, then Paris. My etiquette is that learned from private schooling as a child from an upper middle class family in New England. I am a journalist by trade and meet people in many different settings in Texas USA. As far as table manners, I am not concerned (only of missing viande on the menu since je suis vegetarienne et je suis nouvelle avec me parle la françias).
Meeting people, however, makes me wonder since I will be in a foreign country. In Australia, I met a couple who knew my lineage is French and the wife and I faisions la bise, but her husband gave a courteous handshake.
I'm just in a state of awkwardness now. I thought I had greetings correct, being in a Canadian part of Maine and Connecticut for the proper stuff, but it seems once I covered some ocean space, all went to the wind.
    Any advice sir?
    Thank you,
    bitty

    Hi Bitty,
Indeed in France, the first time you are introduced to a man he will give you a handshake. (If you husband introduces you to him, you may be handkissed if you are lucky and the place is very formal) But usage is that if you spent enough time and went along well, even if he said hello with a handshake, he will probably say good bye with a bise ! ( and as you may know, the number of bises depends on the region ! Parisians go for 2)
    Hope it helps !
    Best wishes,
    Eric

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Squidooo community and I just became your first fan. You can add yourself to your own fan club as well. I was wondering about your formal attire and now see you are ready for ballroom dance. Thank you for dropping by to introduce yourself and all the best in your Squidoo journey. I'm guessing that I am about to be treated to some Strausse.
