Chop-Shop Customs owner Lenny Schaeffer began his hot rod career back in the early 1980's , working in restoration and metal fabrication hot rod shops in Southern California.
After returning to the East Coast in the late 1980's, Lenny worked for such notable shops as Collectible Motorcars (Tony Belli) , Blue Ribbon Restorations and Massachusetts dealership collision shops as autobody management.
During this time he continued perfecting his metal fabrication, hot rod building & custom auto body ,as well as specialty painting craft .
Lenny's stellar work can be found in numerous movies that were filmed in the New England area as well as Southern California. Chop-Shop Custom's competition specialty vehicles have been Best of Show winners on the East & West Coast at major events. The first completed vehicle done by Chop-Shop Customs, the 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle mild custom, attained top accolades at the Boston World of Wheels (Street Machine Grand Champion) , Frank Maratta Auto Show (Hartford CT-Best Muscle Car ) .and Top Car at the Famous 50s Northeast Nats in NY . Since June 2006, the vehicle has won a myriad of best of show trophies at East Coast car events.
In 2006, Chop-Shop Customs donated over 500 hours of metal fabrication ,custom auto body & paint work for the Right Coast Association 1949 Chevrolet pickup that was given away to a lucky participant (Sally Salisbury) of the Right Coast 2006 Show series at the Syracuse Nationals Event in July 2006.
Lenny's personally built 1956 Chevrolet Belair had been featured in magazines such Speed & Chrome and Cruisin New England as well as featured car of the month on a myriad of hot rod related Internet sites . The car was also featured in the Massachusetts RMV insurance insert (2005) and the SEMA Action Network December 2005 newsletter.
In 2007, Lenny Schaeffer and the staff were honored to part of the build team for the Snap -On Tools 1956 Chevrolet Nomad , the 'Glo-Mad'. This totally customized vehicle will be a traveling ambassador for Snap-On, touring the country as a tribute to auto technicians everywhere. Lenny Schaeffer and the staff from Chop-Shop Customs handled the prep bodywork and paintwork for this noteworthy project, based in Asheville ,North Carolina.
