Hello,
world. This is my bio. This is my first lens. I chose to write about depressionbecause it has been part of my life for some time now. I learned about the diagnosis of depressionas a young woman of 22. My Catholic upbringinghad resulted in my decision to enter a convent, where I thought Icould serve God and others. But I could not adjust to the rigors of the lifestyle there and in my mind left as a failure. The decision to leave was painful and I went inpatient for the first time that summer. Since then, I went to nursing school and didn't finish. I did finish a master's degree in special education, and later a doctorate.Several trips to the hospital in between study programs eventually resulted in the decision to retire from teaching and apply for disabliitybenefits. Life without work is empty and unfulfilling. Lately I am looking into a home based business that is very promising.I have made friends and have a support system that could rival the best of hospital discharge plans. .
Antidepressants, talk therapy, therapy have been part of my treatment plan. Even more surprisingis that lately, my faith and a relationship with Jesus has had a huge, positive impact on my whole outlook. Some healing is ongoing.
My new passion in life is sharing the hope I have found in Jesus with others. Oh my, did I say "Jesus?" But I did.
