I am a teacher working in California. Although I spend my time at school teaching Kindergarten, I also work with 10-18 year old kids individually as a tutor/coach. I have a M.A. in Clinical Psychology, and though I was trained to identify "what is wrong" with people, I am much more interested in discovering what is "right" and can be strengthened. I am passionate about helping kids discover their strengths and become excited about learning and about the future! Children are puzzles, all put together in their own unique designs.
In my work as a 1:1 coach/tutor I encounter some incredibly insightful kids who struggle with learning due to challenges like ADHD,depression, Executive Functioning Disorder, Asperger's and Dyslexia. I also work with higher achieving kids who are fortunate enough to have a coach to help them pursue learning goals and build study skills for future success. I learn more and more each day from all of these amazing kids. Watching as they build their awareness and confidence that they "can learn" when they implement strategies that work for them is a wonderful journey. I especially get excited when they are validated that everyone learns "their own way."
I am a very proud mother of 2 wonderful kids, college students who never cease to amaze me! They are both bright compassionate individuals with strengths and goals in some similar and some differing arenas. I am so glad that they have a sense of responsibility about their places in the world, and work hard to attain their goals. In many ways I feel that my work on this earth is complete because they have turned out to be healthy and happy wonderful people! I was a single parent for most of their childhood and I am sure that I made some mistakes. I also have a definite empathy for those struggling with any challenges in parenting, whether it is single parenting, blended families, or any other challenge of parenting in this crazy modern world.
I am here to inspire, perhaps to encourage someone with a child not quite flourishing to become an observer and get some help in finding what will help that child grow and thrive. I do believe that all children can flourish. There is a place for everyone to make a unique contribution to this world.
