Shawn Taylor was born in Massachusetts
and raised in suburbs south of Boston. He displayed
superior intelligence and an inquiring
mind at a very early age and was exposed to education,
culture, learning and the arts even as a
toddler. He was extremely photogenic and he
modeled later in life. He appreciated all things
"New England" and nautical including Boston's
museums, libraries, Symphony, "Pops", Cape Cod
fishing on his Grandfather's boat, sailing and wind surfing, scuba diving, Martha's Vineyard and many
other New England customs. He interrupted college to "see what's out there" by working for a major
airline and then enlisted in the Naval Reserve as an Air Traffic Controller. After mastering both
options, he decided to return to New England to learn. After seeing the world, he combined his New
England perspective with a worldview. He overcame exponential difficulties to prove himself, compete
in business and build his optical practice. He combined his love of optics with his vision of custom-
designed eyewear and specialties - i.e., prescription scuba masks, aviator goggles, safety glasses,
racing helmets and surgical loupes. His personal journey has provided both agony and ecstasy and
shaped his perception of the world, society, success, failure, obstacles and victory. This also explores
views on perceptions and misperceptions of minority males. "It's been quite a ride and I'm not
through yet", states Mr. Taylor! Shawn a Licensed Optician, business consultant, lecturer and principle
of Pinnacle Enterprises, Inc. He also contributes as health editor and journalist for periodicals,
health publications and "Positive Teens" magazine. He lectures/presents on optical health, OSHA
and general health issues and provides consulting services to schools and educational organizations
regarding academic pathways, educational internships, planning for the future and self-imagery.
