Robert Frittmann lives in Auckland, New Zealand, and has been married to Nikki since 2000. Robert has been a computer hobbyist since the 1970's, and began working in the computer industry in New Zealand in 1996. Robert's primary focus has been in computer security, but also has experience in computer retail and OEM system building, network administration, business computing, ERP, and software development (using VBA and VisualStudio 2005). While not a recognized expert in any one of these fields, Robert's abilities with such a broad range of computing subjects has often improved his employment prospects.
Robert has an eye for detail, pattern recognition, critical thinking, deductive reasoning, sorting, sequencing, and classification. As a personal interest, he is currently creating an ontology of different aspects of his life, in order to empower himself in those areas. Robert is using the graphical mindmapping software PersonalBrain for this undertaking.
With a career goal to become a cyber-sleuth, tracking down cyber-criminals and bringing them to justice, Robert is intending to graduate Auckland University with a BSc in Computer Science, and then go on to study for a Masters of Forensic IT from AUT. Robert expects to graduate from AUT by 2015 with his Masters.
Robert will also be seeking professional qualifications to complement his academic qualifications, and would like to achieve the Microsoft MCSE, MCTS, Comptia Security+, Network+, Linux+, Cisco CCNA, EnCE, CCE, GCFA, CISSP, and Citrix CCA certifications.
Robert has been a Microsoft Certified Professional since 1998, but this qualification has now lapsed. He has completed several papers of a Bachelor of Computing Systems from Unitec in 2001, but had to leave his studies incomplete to return to full-time employment. In 2009, Robert will be returning to full-time study, with the goal of graduating in in 2015 with a Master of Forensic IT.
In 1993, Robert began turning his lifelong hobby with computers into a career, by studying desktop publishing at the Tauranga District Education Trust. This opened an opporunity to work at a computer retail store, designing advertising, stationery, and color separations for a screenprinter. This led Robert into computer retail sales of hardware, systems, peripherals, and consummables. While working at this computer shop, Robert also gained experience with OEM system building, diagnosis and repair, coaxial (cheapernet) networking, UTP (ethernet) networking, routed and switched networks.
Taking a strong interest in networking, Robert chose to pursue certification in networking, and moved back to Auckland to complete an MCP in 1998. Upon gaining the certification, his *alma mater* invited him to join the faculty as a network administrator. This later also became an offer of a tenure as a lecturer in computer hardware. Robert was involved in developing the curriculum and delivering lectures and practical labs in OEM system building and computer hardware diagnosis and repair, assisting his students to achieve the Comptia A+ certification. After two semesters, Robert decided to return to his networking career, leaving behind a blossing career in adult education in favor of the more practical and analytic world of network consulting.
In 2000, Robert secured a contract with the Bible College of New Zealand, to build a new Microsoft-based network that would integrate with the client's existing Novell network. The purpose of the new network was to host the organization's new student management database, and to provide access to the database for faculty members throughout New Zealand via an ISDN connection and Windows Terminal Services. The database was built using an InterBase SQL back-end and a proprietary front end called Artena. This project was successfully completed and it met all of the clients requirements. Robert's next move was to Capcom Maintenance Services (CMS) as an account manager in this IBM minicomputer support company. Here he gained experience with CRM, ERP, and Microsoft Exchange Server. CMS has subequently been bought out by Visual Group.
Robert was married to Nikki in 2000, and this change in circumstances also brought about a period of relection that led Robert to seek academic qualification to complement his professional certification and rapidly growing practical experience. His studies at Unitec were interrupted due to financial difficulties, and he returned to work using his background in computer hardware, first as a mobile computer repair technician and then as a computer retail sales manager. In 2003, Robert and Nikki opened their own computer repair and network support business, Computer Warrant of Fitness Ltd. While his experience with computers attracted a a number of satisfied customers, Robert's business acumen was not sufficient to the task, and they closed the business after only 1 year of operation.
Deciding to return to the safety-net of a regular wage instead of the vagaries of self-employed income, Robert began a whole new career in security%u2026 as in, site security, security monitoring, private investigation, etc. He has experience as a site security officer at a Coca-Cola distribution center, CCTV monitoring, burglar alarm monitoring, asset protection, and offender monitoring using Electronic Monitoring anklet technology.
Merging his previous career in the computer industry with his new career in the security industry is Robert's new goal. He is currently studying towards a Masters in Forensic IT, which he hopes to attain by 2015.
