I grew up in Eureka, California, with good people who rescued me from the Sequoia Humane Society in 1998.
In the fall of 2006, when I was eight, I started limping after a long backpacking trip. About a month later, doctors said I had osteosarcoma bone cancer, and that my left front leg had to be amputated.
My pawrents didn't know anything about amputation surgery or tripod dogs. They were scared, so they started blogging about my life, and making movies, as a way to cope.
On Thanksgiving Day, I went home from the UC Davis Vet Hospital, as a tripawd dog. Although my lungs were free of metastasis, doctors only gave me four months to live. But I didn't care, because time means nothing to us dogs. Living for the moment is all that matters, so I decided to show my people how to really live!
In June, 2007, we hit the road to travel North America in our fifth wheel RV trailer. Mom and Dad and drove me 30,000 miles, inspiring people from California to Maine to Florida, by showing them how awesome three legged dogs can be.
Together, we spread the word that It's better to hop on three legs than limp on four!
Almost sixteen months after my surgery, in March 2008, the cancer metastasized in my lungs. Then I met an amazing vet who told us about the Metronomic Protocol, which might help me live longer. And guess what? It did! This at-home chemotherapy treatment allowed me to keep on truckin' seven more months!
My pawrents and I had an incredible ride together, until October 3, 2008, when I earned my angel wings under beautiful Montana skies - almost two years past my diagnosis.
Although I no longer hop on this earth, my spirit lives on forever through this website, and the inspawrational tales, movies and discussions of three legged Tripawd dogs and their pawrents from around the globe!
